Just so we are clear, chimps don't cook food either. And not to make too fine a point but the "using spears" is poking a sharp stick into a tree hole. That amount of tool use is seen in other animals also.

I agree that animals should have rights and not be abused and that they have some very human traits (Even my dog is a better Christian than I am.) However, they are far from human and the gap between any animal and the fact we are communicating asynchronously via a wireless computer network is simply astounding.

My point was, that 2% in DNA terms is a lot of information.
DNA in simple terms is a synthetic digital program blue print.
If a program is 2% different from another one designed to run the same hardware it will not work. So it not that close in engineering terms.

About 2.4 million years ago , the direct ancestors of human beings, the Australopithecines, still existed. Homo Habilus, the first human being, was just coming into existence. The Australophitecines died out about 2 million years ago. You really should know about the Australopithecines, as Lucy is the most famous fossil of a human ancestor in exitence -- its basic science.

BTW chimps and humans diverged much longer ago than that, 7 to 8 million years ago.

We know right from wrong. Chimps don't. Until then, there is an insurmountable spiritual gulf between us.

The present state of things is this: chimps have a sense of justice when it comes to themselves, but they don't react when an injustice happens to another chimp. They seem to lack the basic empathy necessary to morality. It does raise the question, what would happen if human beings tried to teach morality to chimps?

My question was, were chimpanzees created in the image of God? Were Adam and Eve Chimpanzees, as they were created in the image of God. If they were created in the image of God this would indicate that God is a chimpanzee, would it not?

I do agree with the OP that it is amazing what some animals are capable of; in fact I’ve often thought it ridiculous to see some study such as “your dog has a sense of humor”, of course they do, it’s like they never had a pet before. Further I believe that animals are a precious part of God’s creation, in fact I think as Christians we are obligated to care for them as we are the rest of the earth. However they aren’t as close to us as a few controlled experiments may allude.

Nobody denies there are significant cognitive differences between humans and animals. Science and evolutionists are well aware of this “GAP” and it is a subject of much research. HERE is an article from the Science Daily. Definitely not a Christian source. They are referencing a Harvard University study. That GAP is very real and has yet to be explained by science.

I believe the image of God is our ability to discern good from evil. And no, chimps do not have this ability. They do not have empathy.

If Chimps were created in the image of God it would NOT mean God was a chimp, just as it does not mean God was a human.

If we are descendants of and/or related to chimpanzees, this means that chimpanzees were created in the image of God, if Adam and Eve, who God created in the beginning, were created in the image of God. It means that Adam, who God formed from the dust of the earth, was a chimpanzee. This means that the Creator, God Most High, is a chimpanzee.

Did Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of the living God, the God of the living, come to earth and die on the cross for chimpanzees?

No, they're much smarter. They actually get humans to do it for them. LOL. I'm sure though, a dog could be taught to nudge something in a fire. Their problem is not their intelligence, but their lack of grabbing ability.

And I have many theories on the mind, mind you.

Here's an animals show, BTW. They can do the darnedest things.

It doesn't mean that, and you are struggling to make a reply.

Somewhere along our evolution, we developed the ability to know right from wrong. We "ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil." This separated us forever from nature, from ourselves, and from God. BUT it made us like God. This what is meant by being in the image of God. We do not share this with chimps.

Now I've said this twice. You don't have to agree with it. You just have to have basic reading comprehension. If you can't read and understand this, I won't bother continuing to chat with you.

Yes, humans, which God calls animals. We actually become less human when we act like animals. Chimps are perhaps the least human-like in this respect. I can think of whole lot of creatures more humane.
