  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Children and teenagers in to-days society tend to live in a home with 2 or maybe more TVs. They go to their room and watch on their TV whatever they want. It may be unsuitable viewing. Same goes with computers where they can go into I suppose almost any website they fancy. They should be watching the main TV in the living room where their parents then would have control over what they watch. Same with their computer, they need their parents checking what websites they key into. I used to be practically all familys sat around the dining table together. Now as we know this is getting so rare.

My household has one TV, which is in the family room, and 2 computers -- 1 is for my husband's business (usually in his truck and off limits to everyone but him) and one in the dining room for family use. The children know that at any moment Mom may walk by and check over their shoulder to see what they are doing. Video games are played on the TV in full view of parents (who sometimes get to play). My son does have a gameboy, but we approve the games and he askes permission before playing. My daughter has a DVD player that she bought with her own money, but all DVDs are from the family collection (so I know what she is watching). same thing with cds -- either they were bought for the children by we parents or they are listening to something from my collection-- usually Broadway.

We have a small tv in the guest room, but not in the kids rooms or master bedroom. And the computer has always been in the kitchen. One thing that has changed this year is that we all now have our own laptops but we can often be found all sitting in the same room with our comp's on our laps. It's really a funny sight!
