Last week at the library I took my four year old into the restroom so she could go potty.  Suddenly, I heard the toilet flush followed by a scream.  She opened the stall door and shot out of there so fast she didn't even have her pants pulled up yet.  Poor little baby was so scared...she probably though she was going to get sucked right in! Being the attentive parent that I am... I laughed.   Then explained to her some toilets flush by themselves.

Anyway, if you haven't had this experience, I just thought I'd put a warning out there.  I'm sure they automatically flush for sanitary reasons and that is fine by me.... but they scare the dickens out of the little ones!

We have the automatic flush toilets here at work. Although they can be rather (ahem!) *startling* if you haven't finished your business yet, I think they are the greatest! I wish I had them at home, especially when my son was younger.

WHY is it boys don't feel the need to flush after they use the potty?

Miss Shelby, if you want to see something HYSTERICAL, you need to find a restroom that has the AUTOMATIC TOILET SEAT COVER!!

Peace,

My kids get nervous about auto-potties too. I tell them they must sit very still 'cause if you wiggle it might flush when you're not ready. My son flushes EVERY time, and he makes sure that it has been flushed before he uses it. Even if there's just a tiny scrap of TP in there he's gotta flush it. (I think he's going to be an engineer like Daddy:)

LOL.  Shelby's pretty leery of them now, too.  I can't say as I blame her.  Like Vow said, if they flush before you're expecting them to, it can be quite a startle!

LOL...your kids would've been freaked out by the "Magical Bathroom" my best friend found near Pirates of the Carribean (I think) in Disney World. She went in there to go and came out and was like, "That's the magical bathroom! I went in one stall and when I came out all the toilets were flushing!!!!"
