  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I posted this in WD, but wanted to get other parents' opinions here. Any ideas would be welcome!

I work as a nanny and will be adding a child in a few weeks. The mother is asking me to figure out a cost, and I have no idea what to ask her for! Here's the current run-down:

I drive roughly 45 mins to work, and currently work 3-4 days a week for 6 hrs a day watching 2 children, ages 2 and 9 months. This family pays me $50 a day, and it's $100 if I have to work a full day (8-6). The new family is actually still pregnant, so I would be taking the baby at just a few weeks old probably. (She has 12 weeks maternity leave, but is on bedrest which is eating up her time) They would need me at different times but for the same amount of hours, roughly. All of the logistics are being worked out, the only issue I have is money. This lady will need me 5 days a week for like I said, about 6 hours a day, give or take.

How much do I ask her to pay? These ladies are friends and I don't want them to be on completely different pay schedules. I considered starting to charge an hourly rate, but this one already pays a daily rate, so that wouldn't make much sense. $30 a day is too low for me, considering how much gas I'm using to get to the job, and I would be driving more with this one. I don't want to ask for the full $50 a day because it's only one child, but do I, since a newborn is so much more work?

Argh, I don't know!! Advice, please! =)

Perhaps $40 a day? Or you could tell her that it will be the same as the other lady $50 a day since you are driving further. I know nothing about being a Nanny and I'm so thankful I don't have to fork out money for someone to keep my kids! Whew! I didn't realize it was so much!
