  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My mom just called and said that my sister came down with the chicken pox. We just visited them on Sunday and my sis held Natalie several times. :(

From what I read on Babycenter.com, Natalie may not get it because I have had chicken pox, and babies usually get an antibody for it while in the womb that lasts a while. But of course I am worried. She's only 5.5 weeks old!

I wouldn't worry about anything. My daughter came in contact with someone that had chicken pox when she was one month old. She showed one spot and I called the doctor. They gave her the vaccine and she never developed anymore pox. Just keep an eye on her, I think it's really only contageous during the fever stage anyway, but I'm no expert. If she does get show any symptoms, just call the doctor. Its nice they have the vaccine now.

Hey. I am not a parent or anything, but I contracted shingles a few years back when my niece was just a couple months old. I don't know if you know this, but shingles are the chicken pox virus and anyone who has not had chicken pox was not allowed to come near me because they can get chicken pox from my shingles... my niece had been climbing all over me for days, and she never got the chicken pox, so I wouldn't worry too much. If you want you might want to contact your doctor.

I'm not as worried as I was when I first heard about my sister having chicken pox. I think it's mostly first-time mom jitters about the idea of my little baby being sick. It doesn't sound like the doctor would do anything though unless we really believed she had it, which at this point we have no reason to think that. So I think we'll just be keeping an eye on her and call the doctor if we suspect she has it, or if I end up worrying too much. ;) Thanks for the advice, guys!

I was really worried about my son getting sick when he was a newborn. We had a joint baby shower with my sister in law planned for the week of my due date and people thought it would be fine because "first babies always come late", and the baby came early. So he was a week old when the baby shower came around and I REALLY didn't want to bring him and have all of those people breathing on him. People do not think about their germs and stuff. Anyway we made a compromise and brought him for a half hour and then my father in law took him to their house. It may be a first time mom thing typically, but when I have a second baby I think I will feel the same way about a newborn.

It's the worrying that'll get you every time! I've never worried so much in my life. I thought it was bad when I was pregnant--this is just crazy! I worry about everything with Emma, even things I manage to figure out that I don't need to worry about and then I forget and start up again.

My kids have been exposed to chicken pox several times (ages 9, 7 & 5) and none have had them yet...I'm wondering what's going on! I've been waiting for them to get them and nothing.

Yet, when I was a new mom, I worried everytime someone so much as sneezed in the same room as my baby! :D
