  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I didn't see a thread on this. I went to see it today and took my 8 year old niece. I'm a big fan of the book by E.B. White and this movie does it justice. I was scared because it's such a great book and Hollywood slaughtered White's other children's classic Stewart Little. Charlotte's Web is very true to the book; there are a few added scenes and a few changes in dialoge but it works pretty well- they managed to keep it down to only one gas passing joke. It's a sweet story and i think it shows kids what being a true friend is- you keep your promises and you put others before yourself. The kids in the movie are kids- they play outdoors, use their imaginations, and don't dress or act like little adults. Dakoda Fanning is perfect as Fern; she looks eeriley like the drawings in White's published work. Although it wasn't a big drama or oscar worthy material- I rather enjoyed it.

The last line of the film is the last line in the book which is the classic ending to a classic tale. "It's not often someone comes along who is both a good friend and a good writer- Charlotte was both."
