Charles Dickens is overrated.

Take A Tale of Two Cities as an example. Poor character development, slow pacing, etc.
Most excellent writing style, but bad writing over all.
Bleak House is slightly better.

But still.
Dickens is overrated.

I totally agree! We read A Farewell to Arms last year and I didn't like his style at all.

I haven't ever read Dickens ( yet - I'm sure I'll have to next year for one of my AP Lit classes ), but I have to agree on a general basis. I have to wonder how some of the selected reading books even get chosen. Such as Like Water For Chocolate. * gag *

Yeah, I agree wtih your assessment of Dickens. I never have been able to appreciate him.

Hemingway: I didn't like his style at all in high school, but later grew to really appreciate him. He's still not one of my favorites, but I do enjoy him now.

The Sun Also Rises By Hemingway is fantastic IMO

Dickens I couldn't agree more b/c it's just one long moral tale after another; it's dreadful.I'm glad others see this

I dunno, I really liked A Tale of Two Cities, It was a good story,but the story did sorta drag along, but the story is really good. (I have never read Bleak House, but it might be better.
