  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've got some money saved up that I plan on giving to charity. Do you guys have any recomendations of some good charity organizations I can donate to?

Right now I'm thinking of donating money in the field of fighting world hunger, but I'm open to suggestions for other good places to send money to.

Thanks.

It's admirable that you want to give the money to charity, but are you sure that you will not need it yourself?

I ask this as i believe that you are studying and most students i know need more money to get by!

There are many charitable orgsanisations...you could help to keep your local parish going by offering a donation, support those who work in the field of Child protection, famine,etc...Catholic charities get my vote.

God Bless.

School is very expensive, but I'm blessed enough to have parents who can help me a lot with the expenses.

I know that there are some local charities, but I'd really like to donate to help fight starvation in some poor areas of the world. I'm sure there are a lot of good charities out there, I just don't know the names of any of them.

Catholic Relief Fund is a good international charity that does work in third world countries

Campaign for Human Development is another one. In fact, I think my parish is having a special collection for that next weekend.

Dream Theater,

EWTN does so much good.

If you're not going to give it money based on whether you watch it, that's like saying your not going to give money to the breast cancer foundation because men get breast cancer more rarely.

It's your money, but this is my opinion. :)

And yes, Journey Home is good.

I'm not doubting that it does much good. I would just rather donate my money to help feed starving people across the world than donate it to help a TV station I've never seen before. I feel that's more important.

Yes, there are so many great organizations that need my money, but I obviously don't have enough money to donate to all of them. Working at minimum wage for 2 1/2 years doesn't yeild much cash.
