Charitable giving

Mods please sticky this thread.

Deuteronomy 10:18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

Deuteronomy 15:7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

Matthew 25
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ...
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

May the merryness of your heart be not seasonal but all year around.

Many people are in need of help. Some of them we know from CF. Please share your blessing.

I give to my local church, to the SDA church (through tithe), and sometimes other stuff (For example, ADRA). I generally try to tie my giving to Christian organizations as I am a Christian and want to be glad to be a Christian.

I don't give nearly enough. For one, I don't make all that much, but I Still spend a lot of money on food and some money other other entertainments.

I might look at doing this, but I am not sure where the funds are best used.

Although I am unable to help right now, this is a wonderful show of Christianity's good side! I'm really proud of you guys! ^_^ Especially since I was recently reading some of Paul's writings about giving. *lol*

This thread's now stickied, at your request.

Jon, Please feel free to share any ideas that you have. It looks like right now that we have two families that could use some help. I am not sure if we are going to help one and then the other or both at the same time. I guess it just depends on the funds available. Thanks to all those that are helping out. Let's all come together and do something good for others.

I hope that everyone is taking the chance to look over this thread. Please contribute your thoughts, and hopefully if you are moved you will contribute financially.

We can help those here in amongst our ranks or if you know of someone that could use some help that would be fine as well.

Give us some input.

Matthew 19:30 .... and the last shall be first.

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

We have $240 in the fund. And another $50 committed.

Here are the 3 friends that could use some help. I have their permissions now to list their names: T&O's friend, Intothecrimsonsky and Catlover.

The donation will be sent out shortly. Thank you all so much for supporting and sharing your blessings.

Galatians 6:7...for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

I wanted to express a concern I have with this, which isn't a big deal, but something worthy of being mentioned.

I donated to my friend this time, and OntheDL ended up sending me back the money to give it to her, so PayPal made about $7.00 off the whole deal--which cost me and OntheDL some money and left my friend without the full amount.

It would've made more sense for me just to send the money directly to her through gift cards, you know?

Is there any other way besides PayPal to do this?

Why? I know if you send money with Paypal by credit card, they charge 3%. But I sent cash. They shouldn't have charged anything.

They charge the recipient a fee for any transfer of funds into their account. That's why PayPal loves the eBayers! If they charge a small fee on every transaction it isn't that noticeable and they make a fortune.

I added the fee amount back in to give an even number to my friend, and it really isn't that big of a deal, but I think we should explore other ways to donate, if possible.
