Are there any Charismatics in the Salvation Army denomination?

Can you give your definition of Charismatic, because I know there are varying opinions on what defines a Charismatic Christian.

If you mean "people who raise their hands while singing and praying" there most definitely are.

If you mean "people who speak in tongues" then yes, but I have never heard it used aloud during a service.

Both but mostly those who speak in tongues. :)

You get all sorts - depending on the individual corps really.

Do you think this is a fair definition of 'charismatic', btw?

Of, relating to, or being a type of Christianity that emphasizes personal religious experience and divinely inspired powers, as of healing, prophecy, and the gift of tongues.

Hmmm... our church leans more toward prophecy and healing, than tongues. While the 'workings of the Holy Spirit' don't tend to be very obvious, you can often see God at work in the things people will pray out loud in prayer time, in the weaving together of the sermon, of a word the worship leader feels led to say... etc. Subtle, not 'out there' :)

My first urge upon reading this thread was to make some flippant comment, but I shalkl refrain and simply say that the charismatic tendancies within the Army in the UK are not as clearly demonstarted as they are in Aussie

They are there though, in non-public arenas- so hence not open to church scrutiny and testing...I find that a bit of a worry.

There are a few here and there, but it's not common. There's a couple in my in-laws' corps that do the whole nine yards... not my cup of tea personally.

We're trying to transfer them to the nearest Pentecostal church... we'll even pay the bus fare ;)

Blessings...

I must admit, charismatics and pentecostals are probably just as prone as everyone else, to smugness, self-righteousness and holier-than-thouness. I have met some shockers in any 'camp'.

I guess I'd class anyone who's honestly open to letting God work through them however he wants, whenever he wants, as a 'charismatic' christian :) God knows I've had some weird experiences when I've been focused on him in my life... including walking upto complete strangers and speaking a prophecy about their life. Yikes. I didn't get beaten up, so that's a good sign right?
