You'll find Charismatics in pretty much all of the mainstream denominations...Methodists, Catholics, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Baptists...in fact, the Charismatic movement that began in the 60s started in an Episcopal church in California...so, for me to hear of a Charismatic Methodist doesn't seem that strange...

That's the difference between Charismatics and Pentecostals. P started denominations while Charismatics stay within their own denominations.

True...but, actually, it wasn't the intent of the Pentecostals to start new denominations...but at the time the mainstream denominations looked down on the Pentecostal experience and wouldn't allow it in their churches...that's why you see Pentecostals with Baptist, Holiness, and various other beliefs, because, basically, they were excommunicated...

There are a few denominations that would be considered Charismatic, as well...Vineyard, Calvary Chapel and Sovereign Grace, I know for sure.

The biggest thing though that separates Pentecostals from Charismatics is their belief on tongues....Pentecostals believe that when one is baptized in the Holy Spirit the initial evidence is speaking in tongues...Charismatics say that tongues is a gift...an evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit, but not necessarily The evidence, as Pentecostals do...this is why I said in another thread that I'm more Holiness than I am Pentecostal...because I don't believe tongues to be The evidence...even though, in my case, it was.

Yes, I am sure they were not starting out to make new denominations. I was writing from the perspective of a hundred years after the fact.

I had based my comments on what I read from the book The Holiness Pentecostal Tradition by Vinson Synan which was copyrighted in 1971, so probably the definitions that you wrote hadn't occured yet. Because I can agree that currently not all of them now believe that one must speak in tongues as a sign.

No, we don't...in fact, we're discussing that in the Pentecostal forum right now...most of us hold to what would be defined as Charismatic...but the official statements from the Classical Pentecostal denominations reflect what I mentioned above...I'd be interested to know how many of the Bishops and superintendents in the various Classical denominations actually hold to the belief of tongues being the initial evidence.

I'll have to check out that thread.

Ours during a stint in the 70s. I obviously wasn't alive then, but my grandmother remembers it (I'm not sure if my mom has ever mentioned it, she was a teenager then and was active in the youth group, but I don't know if it left that strong of an impression on her like it clearly did her mother). After that particular pastor left, so did the charismatic flourishes.

Other than that, no.

I don't think there are any officially charismatic UMCs. I think what you may find are individual members who hold charismatic beliefs. How open they are about it would probably depend on their individual congregations.

I guess another way of putting it is where can I watch a charismatic UMC service?

It the moment, I can think of any. But the UM church I attended in 1978 would have been an example, and another across town was as well. Both in Bloomington, IL if you are interested.

There are others. In Crossville, IL as recently as 4 years ago.

I sometimes forget about the difference in ISP speed (we have Roadrunner...either the Standard or Turbo package, based on the bandwidth tiers listed on Wikipedia). It only took a few seconds to download here - at ~3MB, that's normal.

Of course, when I say that, I mean I wouldn't dare try to open it in Firefox (Acrobat Reader is a slow, bloated mess); I downloaded the file itself to my hard drive and then opened it in Sumatra PDF.
