Some of you may know that I work for the Calfornia Department of Fish and Game at a trout hatchery, and that a while ago I put in for a transfer to a salmon/steelhead hatchery on the coast...a goal my wife and I have had for some time...and got it! We went through a lot of hassle to get the transfer (a formal grievance was involved), but when it came right down to it, faced with a move and everything that would entail, we decided that staying with DFG wasn't the best long term option.
In all of the chaos surrounding this event, I discovered that I am certainly eligible to apply for a Master's program at Westminster Seminary California in Escondido, CA. Michael Horton and Kim Riddlebarger are professors at this school, and RC Sproul is listed as 'Visiting Faculty'.
I formally declined the transfer last week.
We are making it a goal to get into this school in the next five years. To accomplish this, we need to stay where we are (not move to the coast) and keep ministering at our current church; save for school costs; and take whatever prep classes (i.e., Greek, Hebrew) I can at our local Bible college...which is a dispensational school and a good reason not to pursue a degree there if I can get into Westminster without it.
Since we made this decision, our pastor has suggested that I might succeed him in pastoring our little community church when he moves on in 3-5 years...but I'm not sure that's what we're supposed to do. I think the further seminary education will be key to whatever the Lord would have for us to do in the future.
We would appreciate your prayers in all of these matters. Thanks!!
(I would have posted this in the 'prayer request' room, but I'm not sure how many folks actually go in there.)
