Except that the poppies that grew in Flanders' fields were the red kind

The red poppy helps us remember the ultimate price that was paid for our freedom. That is the point of Remembrance Sunday. We can focus on peace at other times.

We shall grow not old as they that are left grow old

Not every British soldier killed or injured in action did so in the cause of freedom. Our freedom was never threatened during the 1914-1918 war. Nor by the insurgency in Malasyia. The White Poppy remembers all the victims of war, soldiers and civillians, UK and foreign. No one killed or injured in war is unloved by God nor should they be unremembered by us.

The Red Poppy remembers heros, not victims.
