  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If the write of the article does have some important things to say, he doesn't do it very well. The article itself is no more than hot air. It will appeal to those who like it's conclusion but persuade no-one because there is no substance to his argument.

Are you suggesting that people sometimes, when pushed to say something quickly and without thought before they speak, sometimes they say things that are a bit silly?

What's odd is that the writer had, seemingly, all the time in the world and couldn't write something less silly than that. Ironic, really.

It is a good example of moral relativism when a liberal is incapable of saying, resolutely, she would not like her 13 year old to be used as a sex object by a 45 year old...

And this is a modern person who was taught how to read in elementary school and watches TV, not a 9th century Nomadic herder on the Steppes.

Does that not strike you as odd?

I fail to see what is silly or ironic about it.

I also fail to see how someone, when pushed, would ever suggest that they simply would 'not necessarily like' their 13 year old having sex with a 45 year old man.

How is that ever acceptable?

Oh please. The article uses her as a springboard to attack Clinton and Obama. What she was was stupid and idiotic, but that's only one paragraph. The rest is simply "LIBERAL BAD, LIBERAL PRESIDENT BAD, CHRISTAN GOOD GOOD!!!"

I did say that there are important things to be said, but this article does not do a good job of saying them. Pulling out quotes, however dumb, does not a serious article make.

Psalm 10

1Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
2The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
3For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.
4The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
5His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
6He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.
7His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
8He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.
9He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.
10He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
11He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.
12Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
13Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
14Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
15Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
16The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.
17LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: 18To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

kindof like being against murder but being pro state execution?

or like girls taking pictures of themselves with camera phones and getting put in prison for child pornography

I would love to see create a hypothetical country and write rules based off the bible and have them work. I would shade your world is so much grey you wouldn't know up from down.

There is the issue that even invoking God, having the same thing happen is not necessarily wrong. In fact, in the old testament, that is what would happen to 13 year olds who were raped by child predators.

As I have read it before, it is like a game of chess. The rules to chess are not absolute, they change over time. In friendly games, the rules can also change (such as the touch and you have to move it rule). Yet, when someone walks in, yells out 'these rules are all subjective, and as such, by doing this, I win' while overturning a chess board, he is going to be quickly kicked out of the club. This is to say, even if our morals do not have absolute backing does not mean we are ok with someone just breaking them because they can. While one cannot say 'what you did is absolutely wrong' and back it up with claims to some absolute of right and wrong, they can say 'I believe what you did was wrong,' and still act accordingly.

nets are lies. when you take god out of an equation, you take out morality. when you take out morality, you take out truth. when you cant even see what the truth is, you work for the devil.

Summary of the article: liberal = bad, christian = good

The authors final thought:
The supposed triumph of liberalism is non-existent. All the social, economic, legal and political “victories” of liberalism in the United States and abroad are only result of the cultural retreat of Christians. God catches His enemies in their own nets—like He does with Whoopi, Obama, Clinton and many others—and thus He gives us assurance for our victory in history. If we will only act.

Hmmm. Wonder what sort of action the author means...

“I don’t necessarily want my 13-year old to have sex with a 45-year old man.” What does that phrase mean? She probably wouldn’t be able to tell. Does she say that it is not “necessity” that tells her what to want or not? Or does she say she is not forced to want her 13-year old to have sex, she just wants it on her own accord
I would like to see the quote in context before leaping to the conclusion that Ms. Goldberg would ever like to think of her 13 yro daughter having sex with a 45 year old man.

i admit it. I am the devil. or rather one of them. If i taint enough souls i will grow black feathery wings and descend to the sexy stripper club underground

now that we have gotten these formalities out of the way there is many things wrong with what you just said.
when you take god out of an equation, you take out morality.
so i save a child from a bus. does my moral actions change if i believe in god or not? An action itself is ether moral or immoral. It has nothing to do with god. If god changes if a action is immoral or moral then morality is pointless and can change on gods whim.

when you take out morality, you take out truth.
Well an action is True if its moral or immoral Its simply the correct account of what happens. Truth: a circle is round. Lie a circle has for 4 sides and 4 right angles.

Truth simply is and is not effect by morality.
when you cant even see what the truth is, you work for the devil.
The world is not that simple. I think what your really saying is that everyone that contradicts you and people who think like you are the enemy. You have just given it some divine spice.
