  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi

I probably should post this in CF help section; but I wanted to get your opinion.

Can anyone call themselves Catholic on CF and use our icon to identify themselves as such? There is a particular person I am talking about that is actively debating for Pro-Choice and is representing herself with our Catholic icon. I think it gives a wrongful impression of what Catholic means to all of us.

Here is an excerpt from her profile, as you will see she strays far from being Catholic.

"I will say I'm a Catholic in the manner as I was raised by my mother, so I guess a mystic form of Catholic. I am not Catholic in the traditional sense; I am pro-choice, pro-equal rights for homosexuals, pro-death penalty, pro-stem cell research, do not believe abstinence before marriage, and I use non-traditional means for spiritual completion. I read Tarot, Runes, perform Reiki, study herbology, and believe in honoring nature. I also do a moderate amount of magical works, like spells and rituals."

She also adds that she does not attend Church, and lives with her boyfriend.

How is this Catholic? What do you think? Should we let it go, or should our Catholic icon really mean Catholic? I feel that her vocal, wrongful, representation of our faith is very confusing to those outside of our Church. Maybe it is just me, but it really really irks me to read her posts praising the right to abortion, while looking at the Catholic icon on her post!!

Moderators: If I have broken any rules I am truly sorry, or if you need to move this to another forum then go right ahead. :)

As you wanted people's opinions, I would say you should definitely report this as it misrepresents Catholicism in a serious way. I can't think of much of a way round it...unless you have to pass a Catholic quiz before using icon! But that would perhaps prohibit some people who want to be a part of the Church but aren't intellectually blessed; people ho don't fully understand but still love Jesus would probably count as those who 'accept Him like a little child' and hence cannot be hindered.

Lol, I'm sorry this made me giggle lol; you have first paragraph here describing fundementally non-Christian values, and advocation of some forms of witchcraft beliefs and practises; a serious sin (We pray for this lady, bring her to your truth Lord Jesus:crossrc:)

But then we have SHOCK HORROR:

She is what we are talking about here- she is the Third secret. http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?p=16238258&postcount=66

She is just protesting the Church and she did clarify that she doesn’t speak for Catholics but against them.

Ask a mod person in there if they can get her to stop because this is a backhanded attack on Mother Church.

Yes! You got it! ;)

Nowhere in her whole life is she Catholic except when she posts, debates, and opening just bugs me, here on CF!

If she is Catholic by virtue of her upbringing... than I am forever doomed to be atheist because of my own. :sigh: She may have been a cradle Catholic, but the wind blew, the limb broke!

I think you misunderstand. She does not speak for the Church but against it.

Contact a mod in GA, are they any catholic mods in there? Or a CF catholic admin, and see what they can do because she clearly is breaking CF rules.

Al right!!! :amen:

I was just informed....

You asked: "Can anyone call themselves Catholic on CF and use our icon to identify themselves as such?"

No -- it is a Rule breach. If she posts non-Catholic beliefs, you can file a report on the bad posts (use the REPORT button).

I love CF! Please let us all work together to provide a solid sense of what it is to follow Christ as a member of his Church... report obviously wrongful Catholic representations! :preach:

Please

If she's baptized, she's catholic. Period. And I'd advise against ex-communicating anybody by popullar vote.

The Church is patient. We should also be.
So all those in congregation who left the Church- who clearly hates it should wear the catholic icon because they were baptized in the Church?

That's up to them, and it would be their sin the way you are portraying it; ie: to deceive. However there are people who favor sex outside marriage, homosexuality, are against tradition and the primacy of the pope and still call themselves catholic.

I strongly disagree with them.

But I am not kicking anybody out of the church the way things are done in the net. They might never come back
