In the morning, I want to devote my life to God daily, by saying a devotion before the crucifix and candles I now have set up in my home.

I cross myself and then light the candles and then say what specific prayer?

Is it OK to hang a rosary next to the crucifix?

Can I just say the our father, or is there such a thing as a half rosary?

I have wanted to say a specific prayer of devotion to god and serving Him and loving Him, every day.

The candles I bought are st jude and an angel....should I get others?

There are several prayers of consecration

I find those are great to start the day, it charges your day with a deeper sense of purpose

Here is a prayer of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart

You can find other consecration prayers online if you do not care for this one

It is very good that you remember your guardian angel with a special candle, that also sounds like a good way to start the day, too often we forget the angelic guardian that God put over us

I am covered with goosebumps, thank you so very much!

I love the guardian angel candle and want to know more about them and what to say.

I haven't memorized the guardian angel prayer, but recently, an entire room of Catholics all said it together, at a moments notice, all by memory! this blows me away...that so many know these prayers

I just now created a short cut to this screen you linked me to, so I can bring it up in the morning.

"Imprint Thy pure love so deeply in my heart that I may never forget Thee or be separated from Thee."

this is perfect!

Thank you Rhamiel

You can do anything you like, and you aren't limited by what candles you have (or don't).

I might suggest you pray a decade of the Divine Mercy chaplet. Or, since you want to hang a rosary next to your crucifix, you could pray a decade of Jesus prayers (Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner) and recite a Marian prayer on an Our Father bead to conclude.

we aren't even covering any of this at all in rcia class.....I have to keep trying to get answers in other ways...

I know a decade is 10 beads....so what are "Jesus prayers?" its in plural, so do I say a series of different prayers?

It will come, in time. Eventually it will be second nature, and then when something is changed (like some of the prayers in English a few years back) you will notice immediately!

The Jesus prayer is simply the following phrase: Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. I referred to it plurally because I thought it would sound odd to say "a decade of the Jesus prayer".

You're free to change it a bit if you desire. I prefer to refer to Jesus as the son of David because it's closer to what's in Scripture (Luke 18:38). It's used in the chotki, which originated in the Eastern tradition. That's a prayer rope (or set of beads) that can be as long or short as you want (I have a chotki that's made up of 103 beads, though 33 is probably the most popular number).

what would that be exactly?
The Divine Mercy chaplet is a set of prayers that can be recited with a typical rosary. It was given to the Church in the 20th century by the Polish nun Sr. Faustina Kowalska, who had visions of Jesus throughout her life and wrote a diary of these encounters called Divine Mercy in my Soul. She was canonized a saint by Pope John Paul II 18 years ago. This website teaches you how to pray the chaplet that Jesus gave her.

I'll pray for you as well :)

I attended Mass for several years before I became Catholic, coming from a Baptist background I was not familiar with Liturgy at all, but after some time I learned the parts and responses. I still know it all, and in the Lutheran church our Mass is very similar to the Catholic Mass.

I'm not really a morning person. I start the day by doing the Sign of the Cross. Some days, that's it! Other days, I also pray what I like to call "the core prayers" (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father, Eternal Rest). Other days, I pray from the Little Office of our Lady, or the Little Crown of our Lady. Or even the Little Office of the Passion of our Lord, written by St. Francis. But more often than not, I just make the Sign of the Cross in a zombie-like manner and make my way to the kitchen to make my morning coffee!

Where I really shine, though, is one my morning commute. I pray the Rosary everyday on the morning train. People might give me weird looks, but I don't care. I think that they're the weird ones for not spending time with Jesus and Mary in prayer :)

Also, as I often forget it in the morning, I like to repeat consecration prayer throughout the day, something like "I belong entirely to you, and all that I have is yours, my dearest Jesus, through Mary your holy mother".

Don't stress. You have an advantage in that you don't know how to do this stuff automatically. So you get to learn it consciously. It will be rich, listening to the words, pondering them in your heart.

You are absolutely right, and what a very lovely observation you have made.

Its all so beautiful.

I've gone to my second adoration chapel and got down on both knees on the floor and it felt so right and good to do so.

They don't teach this in class, so I try and quietly copy what others are doing....
