Hello people out there my name is Azarius and I'm a bit confused. You see my mother goes to Catholic Church:liturgy: and I sometimes go there and a Pentecostal church:preach: . I've been reading up on the Catholicism vs. Protestantism debates and I'm must say I for one believe we should unify, all of us, as a church-every denomination. I deeply respect all the denominations but I am a bit confused ABOUT THE VENERATION OF MARY, whats her position in the church. I believe that Mary should be venerated as such, but all the articles I read on this seem to be anti catholic, so couldd someone please explain it to me in the sense that catholicism teaches it. PLEASE IT WOULD HELP HEAPS!!!! thanks for any feedbackand may you be blessed in the name of the father the son and the holy spirit.AMEN:crosseo:

Unfortunatly there are bigger differences then consideration about Mary.

About Mary: You see, our Lord Jusus Christ is indeed very good, but He is always our Lord, and sometime we would like to get someone who help us with Him (sometime Jusus in quite hard in the Gospels)
- Jesus always do, even unwiling, what Her Mother ask Him to (Gv 2, 1-5)
- Jesus said to John (and to all of us) that Mary is our mother (Gv 19, 26-27)
Catholics refer to Mary saying: "Mary, please pray Jesus for us...". Jesus is a real person, so it is quite natural to arrive to him not only direcly (as the most of the times), but also through who He loved most, and this particulary when you are away from Him by sins.

Anyway not even a single prayer is given to Mary during the whole Mass. There is only a remeberance of Her together with all saints (like: "Almighty God, who have given grace to Mary and to Apostles and to Saints, help us too...")

Please take note that also all Orthodox Churches, that are realy true churches, have the same respect for Mary.

You can be Catholic even if you dont honor Mary.

Yeah but marys not omniescient hows she gonna know your asking her to pray for you. You cant take that one spot and assume jesus always obeys his mother. He was simply telling him to take care of his mother as if he was his mother.

For sure May is NOT omniscient.

Any pray made to Mary is heard only by Christ, and it is Christ that "give the information" to her mother. (If you received a postcard for your mather, do you throw it away?).
Jesus may not obey his mother, but Jesus for sure obey to the fourth comandament.

No one should be praying to Mary, rather To Jesus, Through Mary. Not to mention, there are countless documented miraculous events stemming from the intercession of Mary.

We agree 100%.

1Tim 2:6: ...who gave himself as a ransom for all,

Mediator=who gave himself as a ransom for all

Only Christ is the Mediator.

Mary is not a Mediator, but we can use Her to reach the Mediator. Easy

But why-I mean before it was only preist who could talk to God

God gave us his son son we could talk directly to him

When Jesus resurected he did not leave us Marys Spirit-He left us the Holy Spirit so that we may keep in touch with God

Jesus does not listen to your prayers more or less based on if you ask mary to help you

He listens to your prayers dependant on whats in your heart and soul

Try and ask a priest I guess, but in my unknowledgeable thought about the roll Mary plays would have to be the mother of Christ. Mary was pure of sin and she concieved Christ! :amen: On the cross Jesus said "Behold your Mother!" So we honor Christ by adoring Mary. NOT WORSHIPING but adoring because we love her for giving birth to Christ.

Isn't a prayer to anyone other than God a form of worship?
Since Jesus and the Father are one, and Jesus asks us to pray in His name, it always makes sense to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus.

Matthew 6:8 "So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him"

Matthew 6:6 "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."

That is why when Baptists pray to Jesus, we say "(the prayer), in Jesus name, amen"

Jesus said if we ask, we will recieve.

But if we ask, we should be aligned to our Father's will, for Christ said himself one who follows Him is one who is doing the will of the Father.

No.
We believe that the saints who have died are in heaven with God and that they will pray for us as members of God's family. It is not worship to ask them to pray for us. The psalmist sings to the 'heavenly host' to praise the Lord, likewise we worship the Lord with those in heaven. Those in heaven, and especially Mary, have a desire for all on earth to be saved and to join them in heaven. It is natural for them to pray for us...and so it is acceptable for us to ask them for prayer.

Catholics can ask for the intercession of the saints in heaven, but are not required to do so:)

Also, about the God and men thing, Mary was a human. So, from that point of view, it is still a human presenting another human's requests to the mediator between man and God. It's not any different from asking you to pray for me, as you are now a human presenting another human's requests to God.

It's not worshipping if all we are doing is asking them to pray for us, just like it is not worshipping you for me to ask you to pray for me.

Furthermore, we recognize Mary as someone whom God blessed greatly. So, by asking Mary to intercede for us, we are recognizing and paying homage to God for doing all those things for her that we recognize her for.

scripture says what ever you give up for the gospel's sake will be multiplied and returned to you both in this life and the next .... Mary gave up Jesus , a son ...

have you ever asked mom to ask dad for a favor ?
+/- the intercession of the saints ... church says they are there at the throne ... ask you to ask God ... as in the Old testament day of atonement ... ask priest to ask God ...
