With all this talk of movies I thought it might be cool to hear everyones favorite "pro- Catholic" movies.

Mine:
1. The Mission

2. I Confess (it's Hitchcock and awesome- the priest who has hear the confession of a murderer begins to look as though he is the guilty one, but will not break his silence)

3. On the Waterfront

4. The Cardinal

5. The Scarlet and the Black

Well I am not so sure how PRO-Catholic this movie was I guess it would depend on your perspective but my movie was Joan of Arc with Lee Lee Sobieski (sp?). I guess if it is Pro-Saint it is Pro Catholic, no??

For sentimental reasons, I'd have to say one of my favorite Catholic movies would be:
The Song of Bernadette

However, I must admit that The Mission is a particular favorite of mine as well.

Yes the Song of Bernadette! WOW what a movie! I saw it when I was 7 and haven't ever forgotten it!

I was thinking about seeing if the library had Song of Bernadette- I've just been reading my kids some books my brother sent us from Lourdes and the kids just loved it. They're now praying thatwe'll get to go. I thought they might like the movie a little bit. My three year old was telling some lady the whole story and I almost couldn't contain myself as she proceeded to say that the Pretty Ladt told Bernadette the she was the Immaculate InCeption...

I've got the book Quo Vadis, maybe I'll read that-- if I can ever finish Copperfield which I swear will be the end of me!

A Man for All Seasons is my favorite.

Scenes from other movies that I love:
Jesus with the Centurion in "Jesus of Nazareth"
Peter preaching in the catacombs in "Quo Vadis"
The stare-down scene (G. Peck-C.Plummer) in The Scarlet and The Black.

I still have never seen Aman for All Seasons-- And I love St. Thomas More!! Maybe for Lent!!

Have you ever seen The Miracle of Marcileno--although I'm sure that's not spelled right. But it's where the little boy ends up in the arms of Jesus on the crucifix......

I love that movie, Shannon. I have a copy. But I didn't list it because I wasn't sure anyone would know it.

There is now a digitally remastered edition out that I saw on EWTN.

I have both read and seen it and don't much care for it, for some of the same reasons I don't much care for The Thorn Birds. Outsiders really don't understand the inner workings of the Church - which are radically different in every way from the ways of the world.

I love that movie. Sobieski is awesome as St. Joan.

Who plays the priest in I Confess? Richard Todd?
Karl Malden was very impressive in his role.
