  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have any of you heard of Catholic Familyland? It is also called the Apostolate for Family Consecration. Familyland holds week-long familyfests for truly holy family summer vacations. They also have a TV network broadcasting from Skyangel channel #9717. Familyland uses the media,(videotapes & TV) to evangelize. People who attend their events are trained to evangelize and inspired to do the will of God. There are two groups of consecrated singles who operate the grounds. They also spend much time with your children and get in touch with them to help them get in touch with their faith.

Familyland is fully supported (in spirit, not money) by the Vatican. Every member of the Roman Curia is on their advisary council. Francis Cardinal Arienze will be there this coming weekend for a Totus Tuus Conference. Dr Scott Hahn will also be a speaker. Fr. George Kosicki and many other famous speakers will be participating in this event. Familyland is located near Steubenville Ohio. You can call them at 1-800-FOR-MARY

Being at Familyland is like experiencing a piece of heaven on earth.

In Christ, Patrick

PS- Has anyone else been there?

Panterapat,

I only live about 5 minutes from Catholic Familyland. It is just down the road from my house.

I have been through there, but have not been to any masses or retreats there. It is a beautiful place to say the least.

Most of the parishes in my Diocese, seem to feel that they almost border on cultish. They are very Charismatic there, and most of the parishes in my area are not Charismatic.

They are on the site which used to be the old St. John Vianney Seminary. It was a wonderful place back then too.

Someday though I would like to go to a mass there, and just browse around.

CATHOLIC FAMILYLAND is located about 25 minutes from Steubenville,my diocese , and is located in the Bloomingdale, Ohio area,,,,,,,,down in the country. It is very beautiful and peaceful.

Like I said it is 5 minutes away from my house. And to think I have not been there recently.......will have to do something about that.

The Konickers are the ones who established it and built it into Catholic Familyland. Mrs. Konicker passed away not too long ago.

Most of the people who travel in to Catholic Familyland, stay in Steubenville, and sometimes Weirton,W. Va... I am not sure if Familyland has enough rooms built on site for visitors. I do know they were erecting some buildings just for that purpose , for people to stay.

If any of you type in a search engine, Catholic Familyland.com, it should take you to the site.

Lady Grace-

Catholic familyland is cultish only if you consider Pope John Paul II to be cultish. They are fully in line with the Holy Father. Your Bishop Sheldon has been there many times. Fr. Michael Scanlan from Francicsan University has also preached there many times, as have most of the faithful cardinals in this country.

As far as being charismatic??? They are very alive in their faith, they are extremely reverant and prayerful, they sing with vigor, but are not charismatic.

The group that lives there year-long are called the Catholic Corps. There are two groups, one men's and one women's living in seperate houses. They are concentrated singles who have given their lives in service to the Church. One can feel their holiness by being around the Catholic Corps.

The Holy Father has personally encouraged the Conikers in their evangelization efforts. In fact, Gerry and Gwen Coniker,(the founders) were selected as one of the dozen coupes in the world to be representatives for the Pontifical Council for the Family.

There is nothing hokey at Catholic familyland. In my visits there, I have been challanged to fully live out my faith and to do everything "All for the Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in union with St. Joseph."

In Christ, Patrick

Panterapat, well, I certainly don't consider Pope John Paul to be  cultish. And as far as I remember, I didn't say anything like that.

Well, since I am on Diocesan Council, I know that former Bishop Shedon made visits there. And I am not being trite, but as a Bishop, did he have a choice not to visit a part of his diocese?

I know all about the Conikers,,,,,,,,,,,remember i only live 5 minutes away. And I did spell their name wrong, sorry.

I do want to visit it sometime, because I have driven down through there , and it is beautiful and peaceful. Apiece of heaven.

And those of us in my parish are lively in our faith too, and we sing out with vigor.

And as for Rev. Micheal Scanlan, the Fransciscan University is very much Charismatic. The students are so very helpful and polite, and it is a nice place to go when the diocese has really big functions.

But I do appreciate your comments and I will really make a point of going down the road, and visit Catholic Familyland. :)

Patrick, I extend my apology, but I did take it the wrong way I guess.

Just living around them , we see them maybe a bit differently as one who visits. I don't know.  It doesn't matter. They dedicated their lives to God and that is what is important.

Seriously , I would like to go down there one day and attend mass. I think it would be very nice.

Peace and Love

Sheila/Lady Grace

p.s.

Your name in one of my two very favorites: Patrick and Andrew...lol
