  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dear bros and sis,

I've been wondering is there any website online where we can download Catholic Calendar for year 2005. I've been a catholic for a year now, but alot of events or obligation days still seems confusing to me. :confused:

Actually, as a catholic, wat are the "important" days which we must know of and attend masses? Wat are obligation days?

pls advise me on this. thanks. ^_^

In addition to Sunday, the days to be observed as holy days of obligation in the Latin Rite dioceses of the United States of America, in conformity with canon 1246, are as follows:

January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God;
Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter, the solemnity of the Ascension;
August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary;
November 1, the solemnity of All Saints;
December 8, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception;
December 25, the solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Whenever January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, or August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, or November 1, the solemnity of All Saints, falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated

Here's a link to a yearly calendar.

http://www.easterbrooks.com/personal/calendar/yearly.html

It follows the rules for the universal Church, with some of the US-specific rules, so as Aaron mentioned, each country, diocese, or parish can have feasts specific to it. For example, the patron of the Americas is Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12, so we celebrate her feast while other countries don't. St Joan of Arc is not on the universal calendar, but she is on the calendar for France. Check with your pastor, or if your church has missalettes, the information would be in there.

Assuming you're in the Archdiocese of Singapore, Bradford's information is right, and you must attend Mass on all Sundays plus those four days. You must also fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and abstain from meat on all Fridays unless the bishops of Singapore have allowed you to substitute some other penance.

Hope this helps, and I'm glad you became Catholic. :)
