  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Warning: This thread will probably contain spoilers.

Is anyone watching the R-rated Castlevania animated miniseries on Netflix based on the Nintendo video game from years ago? (I *REALLY* recommend it)

For those who don't know, the games focused on members of the Belmont family, who were vampire slayers. Despite Nintendo's policy of not using religious references, there were multiple Christian symbols used in the game as well as the appearance of helpful Catholic priests.

Well, if the Catholic Church didn't like Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame because Minister/Judge Claude Frollo was the villain, I can imagine they won't be too pleased with this series.

If you're Christian and you've seen it, does this fantasy piece offend you and why?

If you're not Chrisitan and you've seen it, what was your reaction to seeing such an explicitly...uh...negative portrayal of another religion?

Don't know anything about Castlevania, but why do you say the priests are "helpful", then say it's negative?

Anyway, the culture is rife with negative portrayals of Christians and Christianity, one more doesn't make much difference.

In the video game (Castlevania 2) you can buy useful items from the priests like holy water, and they heal you. I don't think it's explicitly said they are priests but that looks like a priest to me:

In the series, they...uh...do the opposite.

I don't disagree, but this one in particular goes way beyond anything I've seen before.

The Bishop is very similar to Frollo from Hunchback, but cranked up to 11.

Out of a possible 5.
Yeah I just watched the entire first episode, even for a protrayl of a medieval church (I don't think anyone argues the church did good during that time frame... at least I hope they don't.) that was pretty brutal.

Depends if every religion is fair game. I know many people who think it's alright to tear apart Christianity and criticize anything they want to about it, but when it comes to things like Islam all of a sudden we need to be more understanding and reserved. No.. lol.

That apparently describes Nintendo's policy about no religious stuff.

Just finished watching the series. Thought it'd be worse than what I've heard. Lol.

I remember the animated series Captain N The Game Master's Simon Belmont. Nothing could have been worse.

There's so much awesome stuff coming out soon I couldn't be more excited

Lol, I only know of that show from The Nostalgia Critic. Thankfully that show slipped past my childhood.

The Game Master still sounds wrong.. lol.
