  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, as some people may remember, I've been offered a new position within my company. I have been seeking the Lord's will for me on this as well as Godly counsel from other believers.

I recieved the official offer today. The pay increase is a little under 10%. This is about what I expected but a little less than I'd hoped. (I'm not sure if my hopes were realistic since I've no point of reference for this.) This would still help my family out financially. No question there.

The pros of the job are: new and interesting work, more pay, better opportunity for advancement, and potentially more job satisfaction.

The cons of the job are: Potential for frustration, and less job security in the face of layoffs (Non-union.)

The health care benefits are about a wash. I intend to ask more questions about that but I can't do that for a couple of days. (The guy I need to ask is out of the office.)

I'd appreciate advice from anybody who has been through a similar situation. More importantly, I would appreciate prayers that the Lord would clearly reveal His will for me. One thing that is weighing heavily on my mind in this is my wife who is 6 months pregnant. I want to make the right decision for my family as well as my career.

Thanks

In situations like these, you must weigh out the odds and evens. By ourselves, that is a tasks, but when we place God in charge in this matter, it's no problem. I understand that you want to make sure there is job security and financial stablility for your family. You will be in my prayers, and it seems quite apparent that God has blessed you with the opportunity to move on up in the company, the best advice I can give is step out in faith; there may be bumps in the road, but that is normal, as long as you stay faithful with what God has given you, he will give you blessings.
May God be with you and your expanding family, your in my prayers.

God Bless :holy:

Thanks to all.

I am leaning towards taking the job. They've agreed to give me until next Tuesday to make the decision. This is for other reasons than the time to make the decision. Nevertheless, I intend to use the time wisely in researching my options and praying for the Lord's guidance.

I'll update you all on this.

You have to do what you feel lead to do. As someone said earlier, that just might take a leap of faith to do. Praying that God will make his will clear to you and will give you the faith to trust him no matter which way you go.

There's been some developments in this opportunity with regard to the insurance benefits.

My current plan would cover 100% of everything related to the pregnancy. If I take the position I will have the option of two plans.

The first one is a PPO plan which will cover the bulk of the delivery costs but does include a deductable and coinsurance. The total amount due by me would be around $2000. Needless to say, I've not budgeted for this and there isn't enough time for my salary increase to cover this cost.

The second plan is a HMO and will cover significantly more of the expenses. The minimum looks like it will be $250. There may be some more costs added to this. I'm waiting for them to contact me with more information. I would have to deal with all the mess that is associated with the HMO. (Fortunately our doctor is available.)

This has become a source of stress in this decision. If I take the position it looks like the HMO is the wiser choice at this time. (I will have the option to change in Nov.) I am still seeking prayer for wisdom on this and I will keep updating this thread on this progress.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Well today is the decision day.

I've decided that, barring intervention by the Holy Spirit, I'm going to accept the position. I feel that this is an opportunity that God has brought to me. The issues with the insurance seem to have worked out.

I'm going to contact the manager this afternoon and notify him of my acceptance. I also might request the start date to be pushed back to Aug 1st. This would give me time to complete my current assignment. I don't know how soon he wants me in this position though. We'll see.

Thank you all for your prayers. Most of all I thank God and our Lord Jesus Christ for His unending faithfulness. I pray that he will grant me the wisdom to carry out this new job in a way that will glorify Him.
