  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just came across an article in the New York times about the meeting set to take place next week at the Vatican with the American Cardinals. I was appalled to read that Cardinal Mahony wants to discuss women's ordination. I don't see how this meeting in Rome will accomplish much good when at least one of the Cardinals is a heretic. Here's a quote from the article:

Another American cardinal, Roger M. Mahony of Los Angeles, said in an interview today that he would be pushing Pope John Paul II and other top church officials to consider changing centuries of church doctrine to permit priests to marry and women to be ordained.

Cardinal Mahony stopped short of endorsing the changes, saying only that he felt the time was ripe for an open discussion of the issues at the highest levels of the church.

"It's not a panacea that you have married clergy or women clergy," he said. "At this point, I'm a proponent of the discussion. I want to hear a lot more."

This is very telling about the current state of the Church.

Of course, how much of this is fact and how much of it is fiction is open to debate.

The article is from the New York Times, which has an accuracy level on all matters Catholic which is equivalent to the level of accuracy concerning Elvis sightings in the National Enquirer.

Never trust the New York Times to report anything accurately, even if it's the weather forecast.
