  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I posted this in fellowship forum, but in case you don't venture there often:

Three of my friends and I were involved in a car accident last night as we were leaving our Ottawa Youth for Life meeting. A driver was going way too fast for the icy conditions and didn't make his right turn properly. Instead, as he zipped around the corner, he plowed right into the side of us. Everyone is alive, but my head has been really hurting from the sharp force and jolt of the blow. Chris, the driver hit his head against his window, but he says he's fine. I suffer with a very sensitive head and lots of headaches at normal times, and I really don't travel well - any slight jerk or rapid change in movement (even someone hitting the breaks hard, can trigger pounding pinching headaches...so I didn't fare so well.

Neither did the car which was rendered undriveable (front left wheel broken and bent right in) repairs will cost over 1500$ according to a rough over-the-phone estimate. If the guesstimate is wrong and the car is a write-off, Chris will be very stuck since he lives just past Kemptville and needs his car for his second job delivering pizza. He cannot do without a car, even just to get himself the twenty minute drive from Kemptville to his main work in Merrickville... His poor car is old and had already been giving him so much trouble.

But it's also sad for the driver who hit us since he was driving illegally - without insurance (he'd cancelled it because it was too expensive). Now the repairs, the cost of towing, and the cost of the rental car which has been supplied to Chris for however long it takes to get his car back in order, will eventually have to come out of his pocket since the damage was high enough that police had to get involved... that's what you get for trying to save money by cheating the system. Plus now that the police know the truth, he could be fined up to $5,000 for driving without insurance!

Anyhow, if you could pray for complete and rapid healing of my head, for insurance and money problems to solve themselves (that Chris won't have to pay the $300 deductible out of his pocket since he's really broke himself, and that the car can be fixed and won't be a right-off since he can't afford to buy a new car and certainly not with the insurance money he'd get for his 1990 Ford... he still owes $3000 to the family friend who gave him the car)

Also pray for Chris as he contacts the man who hit us, to let him know that the damage was more extensive and police had to get invloved - the man left before we'd tried to drive the car and had agreed to pay for what he thought at the time was just body repair. I guess you could pray for that man and his wife and daughter who will likely be kicking themselves for a long time, as they make payments to Chris' insurance company, for having cut theirs. I don't know where they are spiritually, but they need the comfort of Christ.  I do know they are recent immigrants, he is a student and she works at a hotel to make the family's ends meet.   This is really hard on everyone involved here.

Thanks,
Kristine

The moron was driving without insurance. *sigh*
You can sue for damages. Make sure your driver doesn't sign any waivers for the guy. If this guy is gonna pull a stunt like this, the court needs to make this guy at least pay the damages.
This is frustrating.
I have a problem sympathizing with people who have no regard for the law.
Thank God no one is in the hospital.

I didn't think we where supposed to sue. I don't think Jesus would sue...right? But the guy isn't going to get off lightly I hope.

Owch..headakes! I'll be praying...

That idea has to do with Christians suing fellow believers. It drives a wedge in between people (not that several centuries of protestant/catholic warfare haven't of course). When dealing with non-Christians, I think one applicable reference is when Christ, in his Mount Sermon, illustrated the Kingdom heart by suggesting that we carry the load of our oppressors for an extra mile and if we have an extra cloak, to give it away. Challenging thing, isn't it?

The insurance company of the victim probably wouldn't feel so charitable. They might subrogate (sue) the other party to recover their loss if they determine that it was that party's fault.

And one other thing. This is about seven months ago. I know we're in a two month timewarp from the crash, but it's kind of weird to see people talking about something really old that would be urgent if it were yesterday. It might be nice if Kristine would offer an update and whether further prayer is desired. I know God is clever and exists outside of time and could answer prayers backwards as well as forwards, but I feel uncomfortable praying about a situation that happened a long time ago (kind of like me praying for the Battle of Gettysburg to go well).
