Last night during my evening prayers I decided to read the Canon of Repentance To Our Lord Jesus Christ. After I read it, I was amazed. It's such a powerful and uplifting prayer. If you are really looking for forgiveness, I recommend this canon.

Prayer to Jesus Christ.

O Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, my God, through Thy ineffable love for men Thou wast wrapped in flesh, at the end of the ages, from the EverVirgin Mary. We glorify Thy saving providence and care for us, Thy servants, O Lord. We praise Thee through Whom we have learned to know the Father. We bless Thee through Whom the Holy Spirit came into the world. We bow to Thy most Holy Mother who served for the dread mystery of Thy Incarnation. We praise the Angelic Choir as the servants and singers of Thy Majesty. We beatify Saint John the Forerunner who baptized Thee, O Lord. We honour also the Prophets who announced Thee. We glorify Thy Holy Apostles. We celebrate the Martyrs. We praise Thy Priests. We venerate Thy Saints and sing to all the Just. We, Thy servants, offer to Thee, our all-generous God, this countless and unutterable Divine Choir as intercessors, and pray: Grant us the forgiveness of our sins for the sake of all Thy Saints, but especially for the sake of Thy holy generosity, for Thou art blessed for ever. Amen. :crosseo:

Aye it is beautiful.

There are so many beautiful Akathists and Canons and prayers, etc.

And I will confess to my people here...

there are many that take me a long time to go through...as I have to quit speaking due to tears and my voice cracking.
I am such a sinner...who am I to stand in front of these blessed windows into Heaven and recite such beautiful things out of a vile and sinful mouth....may God have mercy on me.

Yes, please, all of you. Say them. Sing them. Just read them if only.
You have my word...go to a quiet place and spend time with these, reciting them, praying them, singing them, however you want in the beginning. I guarantee you will be spiritually uplifted and refreshed afterward.

forgive me for rambling...but I have been working late nights and tonight was the first night in many I have been able to take the alone time. I just finished a canon to the Most Holy Theotokos and didn't realize how spiritually drained I had become.

then I read this thread! :)

Hello, it says on one protestant website
that
"God's judgement and punishment is waiting for all whose sins against God are without the atonement."
But what about those people who sincerely ask to be forgiven of their sins, but are not consciously aware that some things they do are wrong? As a result, they do not repent of those sins, and in fact they continue to do those things.

For example, some strongly religious people sincerely ask that God forgive all their sins. But they believe that they should beat 3 year old children with long rods that leave large, bloody bruises. Inside, their conscience might bother them a tiny bit, depending on the person. But they never repent of those acts, and in fact continue to beat them. Can they consider to have repented for their sins, when they fell no remorse?

Likewise perhaps there are some smaller sins which I do not realize are sinful, and do not feel remorse.

Please write when you get a chance.

I know its not an Orthodox site, but I think the sentiments in the quote work for the Orthodox too, and I am Orthodox and feel conflicted.
