• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

That's a typical belief among many fundamentalists and Calvinists; that God causes all calamities. If by chance that's the environment, I'd suggest finding a new church or denomination.

I think it would be best to remind him that God isn't responsible. What kind of "God" causes people to be sick?

I don't know about Calvinists all that well but have studied with a fundamentalist pastor who is mostly a calvinist and to be honest, he didn't blame cancer on the person or on God for giving it to him. I have always been taught, in a variety of fundamentalist churches, that God "allows" such things to continue (as in not healing a person). For whatever reason a person gets cancer, God uses it to his glory and always for someone's good (even if not apparent to the sufferer). But it seems to me that most often, even the person with cancer is given the opportunity to help out someone else, to work it for someone's good, somewhere along the line.

Seems to me that being angry at God (especially at his age) is a natural thing. Lots of folks get angry at God for tragedies of all types. It takes them a while to see whatever good God has in store for them in the midst of or after a tragedy.

But ask yourself this...what has this friend mentioned above got to help him through this beside God. Man/doctors/friends can only help just so much. God has kept him going for 10 years through the wisdom of the doctors and through the love of family and friends and through HIS own love. That's a special blessing other kids with cancer haven't had. God may be using this to help out someone else his age who may need someone to talk to. Who knows?

God allows cancer. Cancer is evil, and God allows it. That is so hard. I lost my wonderful, beautiful mom to cancer. But she blessed me and so many others, even in her agony. I don't know how she did it, but I never saw her without a smile. Not through the whole ordeal. And she trusted God until the end! I don't know if I could do that, in fact I think I would be in the same boat as your friend, but if we all pray that he will receive the kind of peace that God gave my mom, we will open a door for him to walk through. And I know he will. Don't forget, God didn't promise that we wouldn't suffer. There is evil in the world, and we will suffer from it. But we will never suffer alone if we are Christians. The ultimate example of the fact that good does come from painful and evil problems is Jesus' undeserved death on the cross. And from His death came salvation for the whole world.

Cancer isn't "evil."

If I had cancer, the last thing I'd need is someone come up to me and say "you've got evil growing in you." Not the brightest thing to say to someone who is suffering, who suffered from cancer...the victim or those in close relations to the victim.

And as a grandson of two victims, I am deeply offended.

Cancer is an illness, not a curse. Treat it as such, please.

We have added pesticides and additives (and Lord knows what else) to our daily lives. I've heard we all have cancer cells and it's only when the immune system allows it that they grow. I wish I knew.

I lost my husband to brain cancer and I know he did nothing to deserve it. He never smoked nor drank. I don't know why. I know God didn't put it there. But, God did use it! He used the cancer to completely change the dynamics of our family. He used cancer to heal a horrible relationship between my oldest son and husband. He used cancer to teach my three sons the value of life. He used it, because we allowed Him to. I don't have the answer for your friend. I do pray that he will find peace (and healing) in this horrible disease that plaques him. Blessings, Mare

The only advise I can give is for you to support and encourage your friend in whatever way you can. I don't believe that God 'gives' you these things but I do believe that he allows them to happen for a purpose. The person who is suffering may never truly know the purpose, but it is there none the less. Most patients go through this phase where you ask constantly "Why Me?", some stay there longer than others. They look for anyone to blame so that it will make sense why this is happening to them. I say all of this as a survivor and have gone through all of this. Sometimes encouraging them to just get the anger out helps also. I will pray for your friend.

Anger is a valid emotion when you are grieving. Anger towards God is understandable. Job was angry and demanded answers from God for his suffering. He never got any answers other than God is who He is and we are who we are. Tho God may "allow" disease into our lives He in no way intends us to bear the calamity alone. He bears it with us, He grieves along with us, He loves us and sometimes heals us and sometimes takes us home. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

Cancer is a part of the bondage of corruption, which began at the first sin. All of humanity, even tiny babies, are under this same bondage of corruption, and therefore none of us is safe from having to suffer the consequences of it.

"whole world groaning and travailing together in pain" (Romans 8:21, 22)

Sin has caused pain, and pain has caused destruction, and destruction has caused weakness, and weakness has caused sickness, and so on. Do not confuse what I am saying with blaming disease on personal sin. This is not about personal sin. It's about the outcome of the original sin, and that outcome was corruption.

The bad news is that none of us are free from that.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

Disease is a part of that. Heartache is a part of that. Broken relationships are a part of that. Death is a part of that. Suffering is a part of that. Loss is a part of that. It touches us all in one form or another.

This is the outcome of sin... the first sin, and the heritage of that sin, upon all of mankind.

Is there good news? Yes.

The good news is that this is the final outcome:

"Christ died for our sins" (I Corinthians 15:3).

"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain" (Revelation 21:4).

PRAISE GOD! :clap:

HALLELUJAH! :clap:

THANK YOU LORD JESUS! :clap:

THANK YOU FATHER GOD FOR YOUR MERCY! :bow: :clap:

Amen and Amen. :prayer:

Christianity is a "religious" cult which entails the discrimination of any persons who don't follow the cult in question. Major victims of Christian aggression include, but are not limited to: Homo-Sapients of African descent, Homo-Sapients of any other religious cult, and all homosexuals. In modern days, the most widely debated Christian actions in the public eye are the supression of medical freedom (i.e. the use of abortion), the unacceptance of homosexuality and the belief that the Christian creation story should be taught in schools in place of the big bang theory.

Cancer is from the pit of hell. It is active and powerful in the world, just as Satan himself is. God allows the enemy to operate in all his forms for reasons that we cannot always know. I believe that God wants us to understand more of these reasons as we pray and search His Word for His personal answers for us. I am a cancer survivor and I believe that God wants all believing cancer victims to understand His love, power, mercy, and healing intention much more often than we think possible. I believe that His allowance of cancer in our lives is an ultimate call to search for His power, because earthly power seems so inadequate. I believe He wants to answer us, comfort us, and demonstrate His sovereignty over this horrible enemy. Blessings, Idolhunter

I am new here, but I would just like to add that:

We are the seed of Adam. Though redeemed through Christ, we are still in the world although not of this world, and as God allows the rain to fall on the just and unjust alike, it's a part of living in this world. We have a corruptable body, and God promises that we will inherit an incorruptable body through Christ.

I cannot imagine what life has been like for you these past ten years and what it has been like and continues to be like for your precious friend. These are some bible verses that have seen my family and I through many trials ..

Psalm 34:
15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their cry; 16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
19 A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the LORD delivers him from them all;

Isaiah 43:

2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

2 Corinthians 4:
7But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 12So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

Matthew 11:

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Revelation 21:4

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

Praying that these verses may touch your and your friend's heart and fill you with peace. Thank you for sharing a part of your journey with us.

Prayers and Hugs to you
Tarama
