  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love you guys!

I was a little irritated for a while (and so was my Canadian wife) with the static that we've been getting from Canada lately. I have no problem with people holding different political views, but the apparent animosity coming from nearby Vancouver was just breaking my heart.

At a recent Vancouver Cannucks game the fans booed as the US national anthem was sung by a RCMP vocalist (who did a beautiful job, btw). My wife was as angry as I was.

I would have been happy if that would have just never happened again. Especially considering all of the ruccous back after 9-11 when President Bush called Brittain our greatest ally.

Well, at last nights Washington Capitals/Ottawa Senators game (ironically, the two Nation's Capital teams), during the Star Spangled Banner, the fans clapped instantly tears were running from my wife's and my eyes.

THEN two Ottawa fans with Ottawa Jersey's on held up an American flag.

So naturally, when Oh Canada was sung the few Americans in the audience whistled and applauded that anthem as well.

Thank you Ottawa, I've always thought that you were a beautiful city!

I share your sentiment completely. There are many better ways to show your political views than booing a national anthem at a sporting event, particularly when many players on both teams are in fact American. The same thing happened at a Canadiens / Islanders game not long ago.

Just out of curiosity, did they put on an announcement or something beforehand regarding the booing of the national anthems? I had heard they might do that after the other incidents.

Anyways, it's nice to see our two nations notice that we shouldn't let something like the war with Iraq ruin a generally mutually beneficial relationship.

I too was ashamed of the booing at the other game.  I'm glad the Canadian audience was supportive this time around - obviously it had a positive effect.

I don't know, I was wondering the same thing. Regardless, I'm happy to see the change.

I agree, I'd hate to see the relationship between the two nations sour. Especially since I have a lot of family in both of them.
