  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Canada to drop many of its retaliatory tariffs on the US

In a statement to the BBC's US news partner CBS, the White House said it welcomes Canada's move, adding that it is "long overdue" and that the US looks forward to continuing discussions with its northern neighbour about trade and national security.
Trump later told reporters on Friday that he and Carney will speak again over the phone soon.
Canada is one of many countries tariffed by the US as part of Trump's global trade strategy, but it is one of only two countries - along with China - that have placed retaliatory levies on American goods in response.

We can work with Canada, especially if they take border security and national security more seriously.

Do you know Carney is dropping them? Because the tarifs we have in place JUST HURT CANADIANS and he isn't willing to do that anymore.

What a fine leader hey?

Everything that Trump identified as a problem with Canada's border is actually 10-40x a BIGGER problem coming from the US.

Stop thinking that Canada is any real kinda threat.

The Carney administration is reducing tariffs and is likely to concede to demands from the Trump administration, similar to the EU, Japan, South Korea, and others. Canada's economy is too small to compete in a tariff war with the US.

Tariff or no tariff, it is ultimately inconsequential. The enduring effects will persist long after President Trump leaves office. Our policies and hostile approach toward Canada have cultivated a generation of Canadians who, whenever possible, will choose alternatives over American products for the rest of their lives. While this may not significantly impact the United States' large economy, any lost sale is still a loss, regardless of its size.

"Carney said Canada will now match the US by ending its tariffs on goods compliant with the US-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement (USMCA). He said that would "re-establish free trade for the vast majority" of goods that move between the two countries."
The Canadian retaliatory tariffs were dropped after the US dropped those tariffs in respect to goods defined by the USMC.

We are now around day 180 of the 90 deals in 90 days where there has been not one fully completed and signed deal.
Not with anyone.
Not even the Penguins.

No. Both were just sort of "we agree on what we'd like to do" papers, but not actual deals. The UK one also specifically in the text itself says that this is not a deal nor binding towards anything in any way.
