I saw a neat article on the Wild Hunt about an attempt at Canaanite Reconstructionism. The site for the faith can be found here. I have a lot of admiration for people who work hard at Reconstructing the ancient religions as it requires meticulous research, dedication, organization and discipline to collect useful information into a working body from which to restore a religion and culture. I'm a pagan but I don't subscribe to a recon faith, I just find them very interesting. What do you guys think? All are welcome to reply (a wide variety of responses is always nice) but I'm interested in what other pagans think since non-pagans, in my experience, are not as interested in these sorts of things.

Reconstructing the Canaanite religion? I don't know. I sort of have a problem with sacrificing babies.

I believe they viewed the altar for burned offerings kind of like a tranporter pad in Star Trek. You put the offering on the altar and turn it into smoke that floats up to the sky and becomes the original item in heaven. So if you burn a sheep you are beaming it to heaven where it can enjoy the greener pastures.

Water that came from underground and lakes and caves were a way to reach the underworld. Probably if you wanted to offer something to Hades, then you would put it in cave? (IDK)

America!

I mean, I doubt they're going to sacrifice a lot of babies but hey, that's what us pagans do! Ask any Christian!

I share in that admiration. I honour the efforts and course offer salutations to their Gods.
