The most ridiculous question I have been asked in Australia is: can you read English ?
A tutor, who knew I am doing postgraduate studies, once asked me: can you read English ? I thought do people nowadays have such low opinions of Australian education ? Can one graduate from high school, finished undergraduate studies and then proceeding to postgraduate studies without knowing how to read English ???
A colleague with whom I do volunteer teaching once asked me while handing me a newspaper : can you read English ?
I wondered can one become a teacher in Australia without knowing how to read English ?
I hope one day a forumite would ask me : can you read English ?
