Can you explain the meaning of the 5th Trumpet

Revelation 9:1-11, "Then the Fifth Trumpet angel sounded and I saw a star having fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit."

I heard a pastor say we were in the 5th Trumpet now - I've done some research on it, but still do not understand it - any ideas?

I believe it to be another perspective on Joel 2, where the demonic horde is unleashed out of the pit.

Interestingly enough, these are the same demons as those who claim to be part of "Joel's Army" would be a part of if they were telling the truth.

The fifth trumpet is a time stamp which indicates the gathering of the tribulation saints. The opening of the pit is a prelude to the spiritual battle to come prior to the 1000 year reign of Christ. The outcome of course being that Satan and all the demons will be put there for that 1000 year period.
