  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can praise and worship be too long?

This past Sunday our P&W (announcements included) went close to 2hrs long. On average our P&W( w/ announcements) last about 1hr. I've noticed on several occasions, newbies walking out during this time! I know what your thinking, and no our p&w isn't scaring ppl off, b/c the ones who walk out can walk out on both fast, and quieter worship. I've seen this at all the churches I'VE attended in the past 10yrs.So my question to you is-can the lenght of p&w be a distraction to some. Should we focus on keeping their attn? Or do you feel that you can't go too long w/ p&w b/c it is an expression of our love to the father?

Only if God isn't the focus and the focus isn't on Him then it can seem like an eternity to some. (I remember those days when I fussed and fumed over it.)

But no there is no such thing as too long of a praise and worship service. I don't try to give God my time frame.(Not any more at least)

I try to wind down many times when I could be off with Him forever and really find it hard to come back when someone wants to end a time of praise and worship to accomodate those who don't want to worship and praise God and are time oriented. (Then I really have a hard time because God gets gypped to accomodate someone's flesh.)

You know this sounds incredibly harsh and I don't mean for it to be. I remember when those things happen to me and I despised it so bad. So yes there are times that things can get too long ....It wasn't that many years ago.

Cut out those darned announcements and just worship.

One church that I worked in finally just put the announcements in the bulletin and said, "If you want announcements, read them when you get home."

The only time that an "announcement" was made was after the service if it was something that the minister felt needed special attention.

For God, never. We will be doing it for eternity. However, for our weak flesh we tire quickly and begin to complain over everything that intrudes into our plans. I believe most churches don't spend enough time in praise and worship...neither do most people in their own time alone with God.

:D Just my opinion.

I think the last I seen Jim M's neck it was the chopping block at least a few times. So no Jim don't have a neck either and so we can worship and praise as long as we want~

The longest P&W services that I know of are 10 minutes of Southern Gospel.
I actually have visions of hell during this time...

LOL :D :D
For me it would be the 'charimastic shuffle' - our 'holy' dance without using our hips for fear that any hip movement would be considered too sensual and therefore the devil's work.

But I would say no, how can praise and worship be too long?
Trish. The answer is yes. In fact, a snake IS a neck …
