  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Can I vent here?

I belong to some parenting boards that recently added a "Christian Parents" board. As you might be able to guess, there are some very fundamentalist people over there who think that Catholics should get their own board, since they belong to "a different religion". I'm not going to bad-mouth anybody, but gosh that really ticked me off! I wrote a big, long reply to it, but edited most of it in the interest of the Christian spirit. Anyway, why do people always seem to think that we need to be converted or that we have a different religion than them, when we're all Christian? Don't they understand that they wouldn't have their denomination if it weren't for the Catholic church, in the first place?!?

*grrrrr*

Why? In a word...ignorance. They have no idea what they are talking about. They refuse to do any honest research. I have to vent myself now and then. It gets so frustrating.

But as a wise old man once told me, after I climbed to his mountaintop, "Just agree with them. Tell them straight out that you are a lost, deluded, hellbound, beer-swilling, bingo-playing, Mary-worshipping, canniballistic, heathen papist." Yes, grasshopper, it is true. And one day, when you are fast enough to snatch the 'Death Cookie' from his hand, you will take his place in the wisdom chair.

:p

God bless...

It's more of the same. Misinformation that has been propagated by the Jack Chicks, Lorraine Botteners and Bob Jones's of the world. Interesting thing is that all these groups copy each others information regarding the church without really checking it out for themselves.

Kind of like 'mis-informational inbreeding.'

If you have not read "Catholicism and Fundamentalism" yet, do so. It will make things a lot clearer. Then we have to pray for those folks who choose to be misinformed.

I've seen that book title mentioned a few times in various topics here. Would it be a good book for a Protestant to read to understand stuff? I need to start planning my reading list for the break in semesters and when I fly out to Arizona in March. :)

Hi Amy,
Thanks for sending me the link to this board. Hi everyone, I am also one of the Catholics from the so-called "Christian Parenting" board. It angers me that people need to label Catholics and put them in a different category than Christians. One member even went so far to say that the people from the Jewish Parenting board weren't complaining about having a separate board, so why should we? GRRRRRR!!! I am so disappointed...

But am happy to have found this board. When one door closes, another door opens, right?

Blessings to all!!

Rachel

KC - I need to get it out of the box it's in (haven't unpacked books from out last move yet) and just finish it. What I read was sooo good, but it kinda saddened me because I know my parents are very fundamentalist, and to see them blinded the way they are... *sigh*

Thanks everybody, for letting me vent, and welcome to Rachel!

Peace,
Amy

I think it would give the non-fundamental Protestant an idea of just what's being passed around between these groups. You can see why we get whacked out when the 'trolls' appear. ;)
