Can I debate here?

Hey guys, I've been away for a little while and came back to find the forum finally split.

Anyway, most of you know I was never really totally prog or trad. I honestly don't consider myself either one, and I enjoy discussing issues with people on both sides. So my question is can I still debate here with you guys, even though I'm not a diehard prog?

It's not like I ever harassed anyone. In fact, I've never reported once on CF lol.

I can't think of a lot of fighting going on here but you seem to think so. I guess Your Neighbor came over to harass us and the mods are reviewing his thread where we were compared to criminals who steal and kidnap and brainwash children.

Maybe if you corrected that statement in the other forum I might be more inclined to feel it was appropriate for you to discuss things here. But if it is just to come here and enjoy a fight of some kind, it does not seem the most noble of reasons.

The title of this forum includes Moderate Adventists. The Traditional Adventists have, by their FSGs (which require agreement with this post, in addition to the 28 FBs), excluded anyone other than "diehard" Trads from membership in their forum, but they are making exceptions for certain people.

You can debate here, but your post in the Traditional forum does make me wonder why you would want to.

Since this new place opened we have shared alot of information, explored some ideas that would have been impossible in the old forum, and while there has been disagreement, I don't think the exchanges could be called debating....

Now you come and ask if you can debate.... hmmmm you are more than welcome to interact with us, to exchange ideas and such, and I suppose debate except that given our recent experiences, debate is such a loaded word....

Well I don't know wh started it. If you say it was Your Neighbor then I believe you. I haven't been around for a few weeks so I've been left out of all the changes going on here.

And as for the word 'debate' I suppose I should've used a different word. All I really wanted to know was if I could still drop by and say hello and talk with people. Some may disagree, but I don't think I've ever been the source of any conflict. Either way, it was just a question.

If RC and Sophia have a problem with it, that's fine. I don't need to be here. I just miss some of you guys!

I don't have a problem with it. You're welcome here as far as I'm concerned. I just don't want to see you being nice to us over here and then going back there to bad-mouth our forum.

I just hate being labeled and forced to join a "side." I honestly don't consider myself to be trad or prog. But if both forums are going to insist that ONLY strict trads and progs be allowed in their respective forums, then I might as well leave CF.

The Progressives treat me very well Andrew, totally different then it was in Trad land. In any event the Trads are not honest in saying that that in their forum everyone must accept the Fundamental Beliefs which has been certainly proven that they DO NOT. If the Progressives treat me good here they they will treat you even better.

So far we have not made a rule that stifles persons from sharing their POV what differs from ours. That would be kind of silly considering all of us here on this subforum have diverse POVs from one another even! But it would be a crying shame if others came here simply to troll and sour the atmosphere and divert every discussion to beating their dead hobby horses which no one else here has any real interest in hashing out. NOT saying you bes one that would do this, just saying situations can arise (have seen it before in other milieus) where hospitality and open hearth have to be revoked because of one or two that insist upon spoiling it for others. Hopefully it won't come to that here, though, and you and others will be welcome to discuss issues of faith and theology with us in an atmosphere conducive to sharing and comparing and learning from one another to the mutual benefit of us all.

I know what you mean. I didn't want to be labeled and forced to join a side a couple of years ago when the sub-forums were first created because I didn't consider myself either completely Traditional or completely Progressive then even though I agreed with all of the 28 FBs at that point (although I had a few problems with traditional Adventist teachings that I considered minor issues). Unfortunately, the rules made it necessary to choose sides, so for a while I didn't post in either sub-forum, until I started questioning and eventually disagreeing with a lot of Adventist beliefs.

Strict Progs are not the only ones welcome here, though. The forum name is pretty inclusive, and so far the FSGs are shaping up to not prohibit debate by non-members. So you are welcome here.

We want a more open forum, my problem Andrew is that you have apologized here for what you said there, which is really only a start. How about correcting what you said there and acknowledging that you said something there that defamed us something that was not based upon reality.

That is if you are going to try and split your time between the forums we would appreciate it if you did not defame us when you go over to the TA forum even though they will give you more respect for speaking against us and saying we are barbarians.

MVA, Moriah's experience corroborates what RC bes saying. Maybe not in those precise words, but the trad forum bes very hostile to those not its "own" and has done everything they can to drive others off who bes not either (a) thinking exactly like them or (b) a potential candidate to convince to do so. Those who ragg on non-trads get instant social "cred" over there and those who challenge them on their inconsistencies or heck even just show up whats not wanted by the "ringleaders" of the clique end up spite reported and sometimes even slandered. Sorry if you think that bes too strong a word but Moriah does not know what else to call it when one explains to others precisely what bes going on in one's own mind at the time of something transpiring and rather than accept that, those others deliberately and maliciously manufacture claims that the person whats explained himself bes merely lying and then trying to build a case on their own speculations to prove him lying.

That bes utterly dishonorable and unconscionable in the extreme -- NOT the type of treatment toward others which Christ approves, endorses or inspires -- and yes, to insist something untrue about someone else bes the truth against their very honest word setting forth the reality of a matter constitutes slander (or defamation or libel; not certain of the precise legal terms applicable here).

NO attempts at emotional "hush" extortion will be tolerated here. We don't want it and don't need it. No one here has any pressing need to bash trads but some of us have been wronged and yes, that reality might surface from time to time in a comment here or there. Trying to suggest we have no right to our feelings merely because we bes not perfect ourselves bes not welcome.

I know how you feel, Andrew. I don't fit into either side either, really. (Well, granted, I'm not SDA at the moment so I fit here better...but I don't want to pick sides)

I'll be hanging around here from time to time, as well. Don't think anyone has an issue from here, and as far as I can tell the trad forum's fine with me as well.

I do admit I feel a bit uncomfortable being one of the "exceptions" that they allow past the FSG's, but apparently the rules are set up as so.

Nonetheless..I guess Id rather be liked by both sides than hated by one.

But not in the sense that most others are. I'm just taking a break from denominations in general. I need to find out what the Bible says for myself, then pick what fits. For the most part I still hang around with Adventist influences, though.
