  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It depends, now adays it actually isn't all that bad for them to have chicken bones, due to the way that the chickens are raised, the chickens are actually killed before they've matured enough for the bone marrow to strengthen, that's why they don't become as sharp as they used to. It's generally still not a good idea to give them to the dog, but it's not as bad as it would have been 20 years ago or so.

They sure do eat bones, and they love it! I know other strays here live on eating scraps and bones. Some are so skilful that they know how to eat fish and avoid the sharp fish bones!

As for my 4 dogs, I give them chicken neck bones, and not the thigh bones.

But is it ok with lamb shoulder bones already sliced ?(lamb chop bones?) They're pretty sharp and hard too.

A few weeks ago, my dog swallowed a stone, I think it's about the size of a walnut shell...maybe slightly smaller. It didn't eat for 2 weeks and I didn't know what happened to her. I thought she was really sick and must have eaten stale food or something like that. I thought she was dying too and was without hope. Not only that, she didn't pooh for 2 weeks but one day, she did, and what I saw was a stone plus blood...(internal injuries...probably the intestines)! No wonder, she was so sick! She was once healthy and fat, but now she's thin and slowly getting back her strength. I didn't take her to the vet....well, she survived!

ALL COOKED BONES, poultry and others, ARE DANGEROUS to your pet. DON'T FEED THEM!!!

That being yelled, chicken bones make up the major diet of my dogs, but they are raw, not cooked. The cooking process makes bones brittle and hard, and they can splinter causing problems in the mouth, throat, stomach and intestines. Cooked bones can kill!

Raw bones are softer, do not splinter and still have the good stuff in them, marrow. Some dogs can chip teeth on the big cooked bones you get at the pet store, the big white boiled ones. It is cheaper and safer for your pet for you to go to the butcher and buy a bagful of bones for a few dollars and keep them in the freezer.

DO NOT COOK the bone. It ruins all the good stuff in the marrow, and chicken bones are the best for your dog, but they have to be raw!!!
