Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Greetings. I see the peter and pope threads are being discussed ad-nauseam again so I would like to make a simple poll for ALL denominations to answer. I am not talking about if he was simply a Bishop of Rome and only for that city but a Grand Pope of all Christianity.

So this poll is quite simple "CAN CHRISTIANITY SURVIVE TODAY WITHOUT THE POPE/PAPACY OF ROME"

Even the EO survive because there is a Pope even if they do not recognize the Pope, for there is illness in the EO - if there were no Pope, the EO would finish their devolvement into chaos with all others.

If the Rock, Peter and the Papacy, ceases to be, then the Church of Christ which is built on it also ceases to be, for then the Church falls into the gates of hades.

I will not be contnuing in this thread - I simply saw it and came to vote, saw the comment and felt the correct reply needed to be made.

And although you say you will no longer continue in this thread,
I wanted to add my comments to yours for the sake of new
Christians/Catholics/Athiests who may be lurking.

First of all, the Rock is Jesus, and secondly the pope has nothing
to do with the EO's standing or falling. They're standing. And as
far as falling into 'chaos' as all others, there is but one church,
one body, so I can only try to guess who the 'all others' might be.

And to you LLOJ interesting poll. I thought it was a given.

He's the head, we're the body. He hath made us free that we

So then God, who could make children of Abraham out of rocks, could not unhold His children by His very breath? It as to be held up by the hands of men? Where was men when God created them? The church is not built on Peter.. Tee hee the church is built upon the very Fact that Christ is who He says He is and that His death and ressurection is the very core of the new covenant. Peter is not the new covenant.. Jesus shed blood for the sins of men is.

Jesus builds His Church anyway.

The Orthodox Church is quite healthy and this is in part witnessed to by its strong roots in and love of monasticism.

The Church would suffer MORE damage if there were no more monastics alive to pray for the world and all those in it. The Church has never been, is not now, and never will be dependant on one bishop in a certain See.

I do not understand why you felt compelled to make such a derogatory statement in response to me when I offered nothing negative about the RCC. I am not the one you need to defend the RCC to, because I see that she still has grace left in her. She still has monastic communities and is still producing Saints. There are plenty of anti-Catholics that you can lash out at on CF, but I am not one of them.

Hate to break it to you, but yearly schisms of church bodies and increasingly marginalization in post-Christian society is not "doing very well."

Ever stopped to really think there may be a reason why the Catholics are the largest of Christian churches? And why Christianity remains strongest in Europe not among the previously Protestant northern countries, but among the fervent Catholics of the south? And is it any wonder that millions of Africans, so long pulled apart by civil strife, are finding solace and community in the worldwide Catholic Church under the temporal leadership of the Roman pontiff? (and not to mention the Anglicans, another great liturgical, episcopal, historic church body)
