  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Looking for an idea for a weekly campus ministry for our local high school. Right now we are doing FISH Club. It stands for F-Focus I-Inspire S-Share H-Hook. Week one-students focus on who you feel God is calling you to invite on hook week. Week two-We have an adult come in who tries to inspire the students to live out their faith for God. Week 3-A student or two share their testimony. Week 4-Hook week. Students invite their friends to the club and the Gospel is presented usually by an adult guest speaker. The students like the format but we can't get their friends there. They say they are inviting them but they just won't come. We either need to find a way to get their friends there or to scrap the whole thing and try a new campus ministry. Any ideas?

We have from time to time a special event, where people usually come. For example, this week we will have a movie night, or a watermelon party! There we meet the people and make friends. The key is that every single boy/girl who comes to be friend with at least one more person from the church, excepting the one who brought them.

Host some type of pressure free outing. So rent a bowling alley, or host a dodgeball tournament, have a pool party, or a big BBQ. Make it free and tell students to invite their friends. Walls begin to drop once people from outside of the church see that people inside the church are real people.

Well, it sounds like a Christian-only Club where the only time their friends would be able to come is where they get a "you're a sinner and you need a savior" speech. What you need to do is what onesimus suggested -- a low-pressure build-up. You need a comfortable environment as a springboard. Even a Bible study would be less invasive.
