I had been attending a Calvary Chapel church that really was wonderful...my family and I grew so much there. But, it was an hour away and we had trouble getting there (In other words I like to sleep!). We had been looking for a church in our small village...and all around they were pretty much not bible teaching churches. We did finally find an Evangelical Free Church and their teachings look basically to be the same as Calvary Chapel. We figure it would be good to get into a local church because we have 4 boys..three of which are rapidly advancing toward youth group age...and we figure it would be good for them to have that in their lives. Thing is...it takes an hour to get to CC, where we go to the service and the kids go to Sunday school vs EFCA where the Sunday school starts about an hour before the service = we have to get up around the same time to get the full benefit of either one! I'm not sure how to weigh this. I keep praying but I don't see the answer. I do know that if we stay local we have the benefit of youth group and the men & womens ministry without having to drive an hour there and an hour back 3 times a week.

Anyway...I hope I have posted this in the right place...and my main question would have to be: are there many differences between the Calvary Chapel churches and the Evangelical Free Church of America? (Besides the feeling...I definately had the feeling of being 'home' when I was attending CC...but I believe I cannot weigh everything based on feeling.)

And...any Calvary Chapel guys looking to start a church in N.E. Ohio? I know of only two and they are both an hour away from us!

With attending a Calvary Chapel you may have heard of the one I attend, Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale (with Pastor Bob Coy).  Our church came into being because Pastor Bob, while in Las Vegas, read a prayer card of someone asking for a Calvary Chapel in S. Florida.  He was asked a second time by someone in person and realized God was speaking to him and set out for S. Florida to build a church here.  Today our church exists because of a couple simple prayers and it has been incredibly blessed.  Keep praying on it and maybe God will bless you all like he did us. :)

As is I am going to pass your request on to others at my church as I know there is someone who has been considering moving up north to start another Calvary Chapel. :)  In the meantime I will add it to my prayers as I would love to see others have what we have down here. :)

Thank You Greeter...I will keep praying to see Gods will here. I'm not sure how much of my confusion has to do with my own will getting in the way of what God wants me to do. I will continue to seek and He will show me in His time.

AS far as theology Ev. Free churches and Calvary chapel churches are very similiar. As far as other things I think that individual Ev Free churches do things differently so I can't answer that. I think Calvary Chapel churches are less specific about what they believe than Ev. Free churches but in practice they are much the same. Do you have any specific questions about EV Free beliefs verses Calvary Chapel beliefs? That might help me give a clearer answer.

I also attend a EFC and find them basically a bible-teaching denom. However, the EFC I attend tends to be more liberal about certain issues than I would like. But that is splitting hairs and not Christian doctrine which they are solid in their teaching about.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)

Would'nt you know it. I also worshiped at an EFC for 2 yrs. They were very sound in there teaching as is CC the only difference that I found was the operation or the belief of the operations of he gifts of the Spirit you will see no speaking in tongues or prophecy or emphasis on healing in an EFC. But quite frankly you more than likely will not see that at a CC either
