  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe that we have three different callings:
work, family, and evangelism. Have you guys felt that God has made his calling for your life clear to you? And how did he? I'm trying to figure out what my calling is for each of these categories, but it seems hard to figure out what God truly wants me to do in my life.

I am having a bit of a problem with this. I feel like either God is making me work for this answer, or I'm talking over him. I go back and forth between feeling that I should just be patient and let God do or say something, to feeling like I must need to do something myself. You know the saying, God helps those who helps themselves.

I'm trying to make a successful business with a blog. I've started asking God to help me write it. I asked him the other day if he'd give me some obvious, grandiose sign that I needed to continue with it, because soon I'll have to spend more money to keep it going. I got a sign. I also asked him once what I should do and that night I had a dream about writing. So I keep trying to use those things and trying to be patient. I have to say it still leaves me a lot of time to think too much and worry about money. I guess trying to be patient needs to be my main goal.

I think that is very wise. I am glad that you have been able to recognized a sign as to what your calling is. Is it a sign of a lack of faith for us to ask God for some absolute sign? Are we testing him somehow? Can I ask blatantly for a sign to tell me what job I will have? Will I end up with someone? Will I find fulfillment in my ministries?

Some people go through life without a clear direction, just trusting God and doing whatever He clearly commands them to do. There are others who like to set and plan everything out, often taking God out of the panorama. And there are those that God clearly reveals His plan to, who are able to live according to that calling in whichever of the three areas you mentioned.

I haven't found the particular calling of God in any of those yet. So far, I'm focused in my work where I am, not being desperate about being single (and could as well live as single all my life if He wants it so), and helping at church/studying the Scriptures and Christian History for the ministry part.

I consider that the five questions that Regality posted are very relevant to this matters.

I believe that we are called to live a life single hood, marriage, and Priesthood but we have to discern these for a month or even a year to figure out where God is calling us. As for me, I know he is calling me into the marriage life because when I was a freshmen in college I went to FOCUS National Conference and while at the conference I felt pulled toward most of the dating/relationship talks and I've had dreams of being in a relationship with someone and one of the my most recent dreams I was in the bathroom and holding a baby and bathing it while explaining it to someone who was next to me. Yes, God does call us to either of the three categories but we have to discern to figure out what God has in store for our life. I'll be 22 in November and have discern for the last couple of years and found out my calling. It just take time and patience to find our calling.

If you put evangelism at #1, the rest becomes easier. This clicked for me just a few years ago, when I was struggling with my "direction in life." I realized that whatever stage of life I was in, my purpose is always to glorify God. Suddenly, every waking moment felt purposeful, and it was awesome! Whatever job you have, whatever people you're around, whatever you do for fun, whoever is watching you at any given moment... take the opportunity to preach the gospel wherever you go! And, if necessary, use words. ;)

Nothing else matters. You'll be dead someday. Make your life count for the benefit of the souls of others... nothing else matters.
