Question...who would you like to see appear in Dr Who that has not previously and why?

I personally would like to see Robbie Coltrane appear either as a bad guy or a companion...i think he would be an interesting character. There are a few familiar faces that appear in series 2

First, happy belated birthday to you (we share the same date so I'm not likely to forget).

I am also looking forward to seeing it. As for the question of who to see on the show. First of all I'd like to see Alan Rickman who would probably make a great villain, perhaps even the Master. Robbie Coltrane would be fun to see, especially as a companion. As far as American/Canadian actors, I'd love to see David Hewlett (McKay on Stargate Atlantis) show up.

BTW: SAM's CLUB was selling BBC DVDs of Doctor Who. All years though not a big selection. By the time I got there, there were about 10 different titles, all Doctors except Colin Baker. So if any of you have a membership with Sams, check it out. And if any of you see Colin Baker's DVDs, let me know!!! He's my favorite Doctor.

Another Tidbit. I was listening to a silly "romance" story the other day. Written by an Irish author. Set in Dublin with an Irish actress doing the reading (that part was fun to listen to). Anyway, in the middle of it, one of the characters was describing a house she was going to visit and said that it had a "TARDIS-like quality to it" and proceeded to explain how the house was much bigger on the inside than it appeared outside. Guess that Dr. Who has become so imbedded in the culture of that part of the world that a romance writer can refer to it casually and know that the readers would understand, much as most Americans would recognize Star Trek references.

OH forgot to mention, the Dr. Who DVDs at Sams Club were under $10 each. Now that's one of the best parts of this.

I hadn't thought of it before but now you mention it he would be good! I loved him in 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves', so much more attractive as the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham than Kevin Costner was as Robin Hood!

LadyNRA, I think you're right, it is common enough to hear things being described as Tardis-like.

Rickman is exceptional in anything he does, even as the "leading man" but he does 'bad guys' so good!

I agree, he was great in Robin Hood. And in Die Hard. And yeah, definitely more attractive in Prince of Thieves than Kevihn Costner who does nothing for me. Plus, Rickman has "The Voice". I could sit and listen to him talk for hours (and I have...book on tape).

Yeah, I kinda figured that Dr. Who would be a part of the slang of the British Culture but still was a little surprised to hear it in a modern romance novel...pleasantly surprised though. In the USA, only a science fiction fan would know what the TARDIS was.

Thank you thank you! Wow, a birthday buddy right in your own family. That's pretty cool. My husband and older daughter are 2 days apart so they actually prefer to 'share' a birthday celebration. We buy a sheet cake and put their names and current ages on it. She gets to pick the decoration.

Maybe we should write the BBC and suggest Rickman for the Master. It's funny how every fan of his describes his voice as being like velvet...lol...but it sure is. One reason I bought this book on tape (unabridged mind you) just so I could listen to the sound of his voice.

I agree and feel the same about Richard Burton's voice too. It made War of the Worlds for me. I could listen to it forever.
