Hello everyone,

Lately I have become much more interested in Pastoring. This interest is not at all something I plan to act on flippantly, but I have been spending more time listening to the testimonies of various pastors.

I wanted to ask you for your testimony: How did you become a pastor? What was it that settled it in your heart to pursue pastoral ministry?

I would love to hear your stories and receive some advice on how you'd counsel someone who is interested in pastoral ministry.

Thank you.

Discernment was a long process for me. I had a sense of desire to help people for a long time before recognising that ministry might be the right expression of that desire.

But it was also a conversation with my church denomination; because not only did I have to settle in my mind that this was what God wanted me to do, but the church also had to agree that they saw the call of God in my life. I would point you towards having that kind of conversation with whomever the right person is, in your denomination.

And - you're married - talk about it with your wife, too. She may not want to be a pastor's wife!

Hello buddy, If you are called, You will know by the burning desire to serve, the inability to shut up and the ability to live very frugally :D
I fought like ole Jonah did for awhile but finally succumb to God's calling and and still am being strengthened every day.
If I could suggest starting by volunteering at a local Nursing Home and getting your feet wet, If you can preach there Friend, You are good to go. Those little people are not afraid to interrupt you and tell you if you are wrong, [Be prepared for a story of the depression] and "watch out because some little old ladies pinch". lol The best advice I can give you is check your zipper before walking out!!!

In all honesty Friend, God will provide, Just relax and roll with the tide, You will not be Billy Graham on your first day of preaching and do not expect more than 15-20 minutes of yourself the first time out.

Hello Fellow Pastors,

Beloved. We become pastors not because we are popular or loved by the people, rather we become pastors because we love the people. I don't think our knowledge of the bible has anything to do with being called to be a pastor since you can obtain that knowledge through seminary school. I believe the main reasons to become a pastor is our genuine love for the people and a strong desire to teach sound biblical doctrine, and have the discipline to be above reproach. And obviously you need a have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I think if you meet these criteria, definitely pray about it, so that if it is the Lord's will that we are called, that we will become very humble pastors.
