Firefly was a show on Fox in 2001. It has since been canceled and after cancellation has won MANY awards. Universal bought Firefly and is coming out with the movie Serinity next summer.

Firefly is a very hard show to explain. It always sounds so funny. Open your mind. It takes place 500 years into the future. The two greatest countries on Earth have allied together to form the alliance. Earth is no more and other planets have been terriformed to be as much like Earth as they can make them. While travel is done through space, there are no aliens.

The main jist of the show is around 9 people that crew a Firefly class vessel called Serinity. The feeling is basically this: Imagine the American civil war. You fought on what you felt was the right side but the outcome of the war was against you. It would be like fighting on the Southern side of the civil war and having to make your way in life after losing the war. You just want to be out of way, off to yourself, and just be.

I hope this offered some insight. You can find better descriptions and fansites online at fireflyfans.net:D

Sounds very interesting. I'm sorry I missed it on television. I like this type of genre' actually. I hope it will be well acted when it's made into a movie. That's a common problem with sci-fi that can make or break it's appeal.

The premis sounds an awful lot like Battlestar Gallactica. Which's remake of a 1970's/80's television show, is currently on television. (not sure what channel)

Thank you for answering my question.

Joss Whedon is the creater of Firefly and both the main characters and fans lobbied to get the movie. The entire origional cast came back to make the movie. It was supposed to be released on April 22 but since other sci fi movies ie another Star Wars movie is coming out at that time they have pushed back the opening date to late summer.

This was the most origional show I have ever seen. The characters are so believeable. I get sucked into the show each time I watch it ( on the DVD release date last December I stood in Wal-Mart waiting for them to start opening freight so I could be sure to get a copy.

If you ever get a chance rent the DVD series! I think it's awesome.:D
