I just saw a cute movie that I'd like to recommend.
Calendar Girls is based on a true story. These middle-aged British women in some country village all religiously attend the meetings of the local Womens Institute, a frumpy organization of women devoted to making jam, sewing, etc. Every year they produce and sell a calendar featuring pictures of local bridges or churches or whatever, and make a few dozen pounds off the proceeds.
The husband of one of the women (Annie) gets cancer. While sitting in the visitors' area of the hospital, Annie and her best friend, Chris, notice how uncomfortable the sofa in the visiting area is, and decide to use the calendar proceeds to buy a sofa.
Eventually Chris gets the idea for the women to pose nude, with cleverly-placed objects (music sheets, cakes, etc.) covering up the womens' naugty bits. The idea of 11 middle-aged frumpy British women posing nude for a calendar takes the British media by storm, and the women eventually make several hundred thousand pounds off their calendar.
The movie is cute and funny with a couple of touching & sad scenes in it. It's definitely not for children due to some briefy nudity and sexual innuendo (and this movie would bore children to tears). Anyway if you're looking for something to watch some night at the video store, and nothing flies off the shelves at you, pick up this movie.
And no, I am not a pimp for the producers, distributors, or anyone who might make money from this film. I just really really liked it!
