  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

C-Section Scar

I had a Caesar 15 and a bit weeks ago and I haven't had any problems with my scar til now.
I have a lump right below the scar on my right side. It is tender to touch... Could it take this long to get infected???

I'm going to call my Dr tomorrow to get an appointment but I'm kinda worried about it now.
Should I go to my GP or go to my OB that performed the Caesar?

I'm a little bit worried about it...
The past few days I did notice that it was a little more tender than usual, but today is the first time i've noticed the reddness and the lump.

It just seems like a long time after to become sore.

In the UK we have a health helpline (NHS Direct) to call about things like this. Do you have anything similar in Australia?

As far as I know (and I am no doctor) this could be an infection of some kind. The lump and tenderness seem to point that way. I don't think it is anything to worry about, though, because it is almost certain that it can be sorted by antibiotics. I would say, see whoever you can see quickest, either the GP or consultant, and do it as soon as you can, if only to save the worry and uncertainty.

I wish you well, and try not to worry.

Lord, have mercy. :crossrc:

It could be an infection, or it could be your scar healing :)

Mine turned red for a while and was tender but it wasn't infected...just healing. Depending on what activity I did or what the weather was like the feeling of the scar changed :)

I'd still call your doctor and ask though :)

I would call if I were you, just even for peace of mind. My c-section was infected, and I actually didn't go in for a long time because I thought I could make it heal on it's own. Well, it didn't, and I almost had to have it reopened. It healed very badly and looks like an thermometer with the bulb at the bottom-granted, it is an up and down incision, but the bottom was were the infection was and it is just really ugly. I've had mine now for just over a year and it is still tender at times, especially after a long day of wearing jeans or anything that rubs. :(

So in a nutshell-don't wait to get it looked at! :)

Just go to the GP, the Gp will refer you to the Obstetrician if there is a problem. (there probably isn't - I've had 2 caesareans and both times my scar has been tender on and off for ages, in fact 3 years later it's still tender if I lay on my stomach and my dd sits on my back lol - don't ask!)

I think you are right in getting it checked out, at least you will have peace of mind when the doctor says there isn't a problem Also forgot to say that sometimes as the skin goes back to normal tone, the scar may "pucker" that has what has happened to mine. I'm not vain about it, it's just not smooth all the way across, that's life. Also it may be more tender if you have been doing too many exercises, or physical work. Hope that helps some.

Well Sunday when I noticed it hurting I had been shopping and then took Maddie for a walk. That is ALOT of exercise for me. It isn't hurting at all anymore... I had a quiet day yesterday!

But I am still going to the Dr's. I just want to be sure.

Remember you have had major surgery only 3 months ago, and even though they give 6 weeks as a ball park figure for healing, it actually takes longer than that. I have known women who had caesars to take up to 12 months to really feel normal again.

Let us know how you go at the doctors, I am pretty sure it will be OK. After my first caesar I had a lot of bruising that took ages to settle down to normal (Internal bruising called haematoema I think)

I rang the Dr's and they don't seem overly concerned... I have an appointment there next week and they said it would be fine to just come then. If it gets any bigger or more sore they want me to come in earlier.
I had a good look at it and it does look like there are hairs under there... so hopefully it is a combination on the hair coming through (or not as the case may be!) and the exercise I did.
