Hi. This passage comes from a book Lewis wrote called, "Mere Christianity" and is similar to some of my own beliefs. The context is one of motivations and that the reasons for why we do what we do is more important than what we actually do.

"Human beings judge one another by their external actions. God judges them by their moral choices. When a neurotic who has a pathological horror of cats forces himself to pick up a cat for some good reason, it is quite possible that in God's eyes he has shown more courage than a healthy man may have shown in winning the Victoria Cross" (a military award in England).

I'm curious to hear what others think.

I think God judges us by our intention, our agenda, regardless of consequences. Is that the same?
That's why we really don't get away with anything, even some people think they do with an "out of sight out of mind" mentality.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by "regardless of the consequences" but yeah, I think intention and agenda could be synonymous with motivation in this context.

That's why we really don't get away with anything, even some people think they do with an "out of sight out of mind" mentality.

Yeah, no one will get away with anything. Thought God may choose to overlook some of our pettiness or whatever, that's not really the same thing as getting away with it. I think it can work the other way, too. In the same way that no one will be able to get away with anything, so too will people be rewarded for the little things that no one else noticed or appreciated.

God doesn't care if we fail. As long as we are trying to do the right thing.

Exactly, which is the whole point of grace. People who don't even bother to try don't have any need of grace (except in the grand scheme of things where a refusal to try still counts as a failure for eternity).
