Could someone please explain to me why so many christians support bush? Why would someone want religion in the government? The whole point of the government is not to have religion in it.

Why? I just posted these reasons on another thread.

1. US protection against terrorist since 9/11.

2. He led a successful campaign against Taliban in Afghanistan.

3. Signed Partial Birth Abortion ban.

4. By Executive Order reversed Clinton's policy of not requiring parental consent for abortions under the Medical Privacy Act.

5. Supports the Defense of Marriage Act

6. Signed two income tax cuts, one of which was the largest dollar-value tax cut in world history.

7. Increased the annual contribution limit on Education IRA's from $500 to $2,000 per child.

8. No Child Left Behind Act - Not perfect but getting there.

9. Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty. I am sure not everyone agrees with me here but it is a positive for me.

10.Pushed through THREE raises for our military. Increased military pay by more than $1 billion a year.

The First Amendment applies to those in office as well. Furthermore, he has shown his faith with class and he has not publicly trashed other faiths to my knowledge. He has made known what he believes, yet he shows respect for Americans of different faiths.

Could someone tell me why Christians are bashing and demeaning a leader that God has placed over us?

om 13:1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
Rom 13:2 Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.
Rom 13:3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same;
Rom 13:4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
Rom 13:5 Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience' sake.
Rom 13:6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.
Rom 13:7 Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

Pray for your leaders, that you may live in peace and be free to worship God.

I'm a died in the wool conservative and Christian... and a supporter of military intervention in Iraq...

However, being completely honest... I have to admit we kinda backed a dodgy horse with Bush.

Doubt very much that the alternatives would have been better... but you certainly won't get my buying into the apotheosis of Bush rhetoric that seems so popular amongst elements of the right

He wasn't my first choice with the 2000 primaries, but I shudder to think about where we'd be at if Gore had been president when 9/11 happened. If he wasn't so bad when it came to the borders and spending, I think Bush would have been a great president.

we play our part in the voting process, but don't doubt for a minute that God was in control, just as He gave us CLinton, Carter and all our leaders.

Look at how Saul became King.
So that whole free will hing doesn't mean much as far as the democratic process is concerned?

Individually we have free will, collectively we don't?

Does that mean that God placed Hitler, Milosovich, Mao and Stalin over their respective subjects as well?

Its Bushes disdain for individual liberties and human rights that so deeply troubles me... his administration seems to have a disdain for the populace thats been pretty much unseen since the age of the Divine right of Kings
