Bush Support Drops

Down to 54% now (it was 62% in December and 82%(!!) this time last year).

Wow, this a very quick withdrawl of support.  There's no way the Bush administration cannot react to this.  Mark my words, there is going to be changes.

HUH? In the days right after it was at 58....? So what? Upon election it was around 54 or so. I don't see this as a problem, besides that is the majority is it not?

I support the President on foreign policy but I wouldn't vote for him.

He is probably going to be a one-termer like his Daddy. The same fate befell the last father-son combo, the Adamses.

I doubt the one term thing, the democrates really don't have a canidate strong enough to run against him in my opinion.

Oh the other thing is I don't understand, based on the election itself, why would you have any reason to think his approval rating would be in the 80s or something?

As horrible as 9/11 was it was a fantastic opportunity for any president to gain favor amoung the constituents.  At this time his approval rating was in the 80's.  I think he could of easily managed to keep his popularity high if he hadn't of so quickly brought the idea of war with Iraq on the table.

In 2001, we had to sympathy of the whole world on our side, but now their back to thinking of us as imperialists (somewhat justified, IMHO) - I think Bush's popularity reflects this.

Pardon?  The days right after what?

Understandably considering how special this election was.

It's by no means a comfortable rating.  Presidents tend to get nervous when they drop below 60 if they wish to be re-elected.

IMO Bush isn't exactly tough competition at the moment.  Clinton wasn't seen as a very strong contender 10 years ago.

Honestly, I don't think the polls mean much right now. It isn't unusual for a poll to drop right before a war, is it?

Besides. I think it's the poll AFTER the war (if it happens or not) that is going to matter. I hope President Bush doesn't base his decisions on an opinion poll.

That depends.  Bush's popularity sky-rocketted as we prepared to attack Afghanistan.

Besides. I think it's the poll AFTER the war (if it happens or not) that is going to matter. I hope President Bush doesn't base his decisions on an opinion poll.

I think at all times these polls matter.  It's good for the president to know who good of a job he is doing and I think he certainly will base his decisions on polls like these.

I disagree. It was a time to be patriotic. I think NO presidient would have been able to keep it up. americans are finiky.

True, but then again, just to be realistic, what do you expect? Look at the election.
