My question is: how do you grow a church environment that builds the Lord's kingdom, strengthens families, but is not just another socialization center?

Where would you start?

Prayer, praise, thanksgiving, holiness, sanctification, a heart to serve God and to do His divine will. A desire to save the lost at any cost. Prayer, fasting and living in the word of God. We need to seperate ourselves from anything that would quench or grieve the Holy Spirit of Grace and Truth that is at work in us.

They say it takes 99% listening to God and 1% praying for our needs to be taken care of. Moody said the power house of his church was the prayer meeting. Wesley started off with a holiness movement.

i think prayer is absolutely important. Activities that draw us closer to God, would be another thing, but John has really said it all in his first paragraph. :)

sometimes it may seem like a socialising place, (you're right though, this feeling may be a warning sign!) but with more prayers and endurance, God will change it for the better!

i've been through this in my church, it took several years, but God is definitely at work.
