I've been having an ongoing argument with a friend of mine concerning the television show "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer". She believes it's evil and that by watching it and putting those things in my head it's giving Satan a doorway into my head and heart. I argue that I have absolutely no interest in ever practicing any of the witchcraft that appears frequently on the show and that it's a work of fiction and that the witchcraft and demons and such is not the reason I watch the show. We sat down to watch an episode together. It was a fairly light episode but it had a scene in which Willow and Tara performed a spell and floated a rose. She said she her spirit was uneasy and not at peace when she watched it. I said I felt none of those things. I strongly feel that this is not a matter of someone being right and someone being wrong but a matter of opinion and individual convictions. If anything Buffy has shown me incredible moral lessons. Taking responsibility for the things you can't change, the consequences of sin etc. Angel, it's sister show, is all about redemption. She's advised me not to watch either anymore and I'd feel bad to do so without her being on board with it. What can I do to convince her of my position? Do you think watching Buffy is very unhealthy? Do you personally think it's evil? Do you have any good strong arguments for me to win her over to my team?

Since you are viewing the program as fantasy, and have no problem watching it, I don't think it was wrong for you to watch it. However, your friend has real issues with Buffy, so my advise would be to let it drop. Since she obviously feels that watching it would affect her Christian walk, then for her to watch it would be wrong. Don't try to "bring her to your team."

However, if you ever feel that the show is affecting your own walk, then TURN IT OFF! But until that point, watch it if you wish.

I love all of Buffy. And i thought it was great that they put the whole Lesbian Willow thing into it. How else will we integrate these things in our society?

Go Buffy!!!
Well, that is my point, we shouldn't intergrate those things into our society. A lot of young people watch that show and sending them the message that homosexuality is cool is not right.

I actually thought that was very well written.....
Agreed; the saga of Willow's love life confused me a bit at first (that she fell for Tara after loving Oz) till I re-watched the older episode with Evil Vampire Willow - she mentions that her evil self seemed 'kinda gay' lol. I realised how complex they'd deliberately written Willow to be, sexual orientation and all.

By the way, kdet, with all due respect - I'm an ex-Wiccan, who has no problem with this excellent show for depicting Willow as a witch... It's culture, that's all :)

Mamba, you don't need your friend's permission to watch a tv show. Just don't watch it around her and don't try and force her to watch it.

Well, that is my point, we shouldn't intergrate those things into our society. A lot of young people watch that show and sending them the message that homosexuality is cool is not right.

Homosexuality is a part of our society. It is there, it is fact, so deal with it.

And it isn't sending a message that homosexuality is cool, it's merely sending the message that it exists.

It's sad how much you let your hatred of gays affect your life.

Is it just me, or did anyone else find vampy Willow extremely hot?

I like buffy, i didnt come to it til it was almsot over but catch teh reruns in syndication, I like that she fights evil, i do however wish that it had a more God based theme in fighting evil. I didnt understand the whole willow going lebsian thing except it was a hip thing to do. The witch craft i could have done without, but it is just fiction, there is no influence what so ever on me to do anything of the sort lol

I am not really sure it should be veiwed by the youngins so much, despite it being aimed at the demographic.
