  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyways, so he is at my campus today, and after over an hour of listening to him, and asking him a few question, I have concluded that while I agree with some of what he says (by some I mean about 2%), he is mostly an extremist who cherry picks verses like no one I have every seen before, and make every single fire-and-brimstone preacher I have seen before look about a loving and nice as a little kitty (or puppy).

So what do you think of people like him? I know a guy at my church who I would have thought is the same. He was the one who denied gravity existance in a debate, but I now know that the guy at my church was actually far far more reasonable. He would at least listen, and he was loving in the discussions we had. But this guy actually left some people crying.

Also (and I know this is not the board to discuss it, but all I want is a name) what is the name of the doctrine that once saved, you do not sin, but that you can sin, and if you sin you are no longer saved? Is there a name for that?

In truth, this guy left me a bit scared. He has conviction, but it is so strong. He just makes me think of one of those guys who will end up bombing an abortion clinic. Especially his whole thing of him being without sin. All he has to do is combine that with the cherry picked verses about 'he who throws the first stone', and people could be physically harmed.

He believes himself to be without sin? What did he say when challenged on this?

He picked a few verses from the Bible, and kept repeating them. Even when pointed out the verses such as "If we say we are without sin, we are but fooling ourselves," he just kept quoting other verses out of context.

I figure there are nuts in every basket. I'm glad most christians are not like this at all and actually good people to hang out with and talk to.

I gotta say the Police were doing a great job. When a couple of us finally got one of the officers to mention his feeling about this guy, he was in about complete disagreement, yet they were there protecting him and his freedom of speech. I know that it seems we always hear about Police going smudging the law when it suits them, but this was one case they supported it even though they thought the guy was a nut as well.
